CHAMPIONS  Scarborough Town, who together with Teesside Athletic are waiting  to
hear  whether  their applications to join the Skilltrainingltd  Northern  League
have  been  successfull, completed the season sharing the points in a  six-goals
thriller at fifth-top Cleator Moor Celtic.
 
It  looked  as if Boro were on their way to another big win when Wayne  Brooksby
and Matthew Brown fired them into a two-goals lead by the 20th minute.
 
Carl  Cook though presented the home side with a lifeline as his back pass  from
20 yards evaded goalkeeper Craig Devine.
 
Soon  afterwards Robbie Hawkes restored the Seasiders' two-goals cushion but  in
an  exciting end-to-end contest, Craig Scott reduced the deficit and late in the
game Chris Thornton levelled.
 
Scarborough  finish  six  points in front of runners-up Ryhope CW and  with  140
goals, easily beat New Marske's 108.
 
Ryhope though boast the meanest defence and Martin Swales' side conceded only 29
times, two goals fewer than the champions.
 
Third-placed  Teesside  Athletic ended with a 4-2 victory at home to  Windscale.
Top  marksman  James  Kesterton bagged a brace of goals with  Andy  Porritt  and
Dale  Mendum  also  on  target.  Ray Sempill and  Alan  Blair  replied  for  the
Cumbrians.
 
The   only  outstanding  fixture  is  the  Wearside  League  Cup  Final  between
Easington Colliery and New Marske at Easington on Friday (7 pm).

A  lone-goal  defeat  in  the  crunch match  at  Scarborough  Town  on  Saturday finally ended Ryhope CW's valiant bid to win the championship.
 
The  Wearsiders  led the table for several weeks but a hectic end to the  season recently began  to  take  its  toll and it is Scarborough  who  finish  in  pole position.
 
Martin  Swales' side, who have enjoyed their best season in more than 40  years, needed nothing short of victory to keep alive their faltering aspirations but an only goal 13 minutes from time set the home fans up for a celebration.
 
Ryhope  suffered  a  blow  in the 73rd minute when Richard Jordan  was  shown  a second yellow card and four minutes later, the deadlock was broken.
 
Dean  Craig  progressed to the by-line and his precision cross was fired  in  at the far post by regular marksman Josh Greening.
 
The  majority of fans in a bumper crowd of 425 went delirious but Ryhope  didn't give  up, however, their efforts failed to produce the two goals  necessary  for victory.
 
Ryhope  end  runners-up and if there is any consolation it is that  they  lifted the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup.
 
Scarborough,  who won the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup, have enjoyed a  phenomenal first season and will end at least five points in front of the Wearsiders.
 
With  137 goals they are by far and away the leading scorers and also boast  the meanest defence, having conceded only 28 times.
 
Jarrow signed off with a 4-1 victory over Annfield Plain at Perth Green courtesy of  goals  by  Peter Kane (2), Chris Lunn and Chris Quinn.  The  visitors'  only scorer was Dominic Elliott.
 
Until   a  week  ago,  Annfield  Plain  enjoyed  a  24-match  unbeaten  sequence stretching  back  to last September but they have lost their final three  games. Even so, they end a creditable sixth-from-top.
 
New  Marske,  who visit Easington Colliery on Friday May 21 in the Final of  the League Cup, also secured a top six rating with a 3-2 win at home to Windscale.
 
Stephen  Baker,  Jamie  Jackson  and Craig Gibbon were the  marksmen  with  Dean Rogers twice on target for the Cumbrians.
 
Despite  leading  at  one stage through Andrew Ross and  Phil  Ross,  Hartlepool ended  on  a  losing note as Gary George (2) and John Murphy  led  Cleator  Moor Celtic to victory.

SILKSWORTH  have  been  unable to match last season's points total of  39  after
losing their last game of the season 4-0 to New Marske.
 
An  own  goal by Trevor Todd gave the Seasiders the lead and shortly before  the
interval Chris Kamara also struck.
 
Gary  Tyzack  had  a  couple of chances to reduce the  deficit  but  New  Marske
finished  strongly  and were rewarded with further goals from Jamie Simpson  and
Sean Mackin.
 
Steven  Smith's side end fifth from bottom, a point short of last season's total
when they were sixth from the basement.
 
Easington  Colliery  end  seventh from top, well short of their top  two  target
which  would  have  assured them of promotion to the  Skilltrainingltd  Northern
League.
 
They  completed  the season in Cumbria where Cleator Moor Celtic won by an  only
goal  scored  in  the  85th  minute.  Gary  George  fired  through  a  crowd  of
players, giving Colliers' goalkeeper Paul Griffiths no chance.
 
Willington  are wooden spoonists for the second consecutive season and they  too
ended with a 1-0 defeat as Paul Hodgson struck for Kirkbymoorside.
 
Despite  scoring  first as Kyle Morris headed in a corner taken by  Shaun  Ross,
Hartlepool lost out to Wolviston for whom Jamie Owens bagged a brace of goals.

RYHOPE  CW's  championship  hopes rest on them beating Scarborough Town  at  the seaside  next  Saturday and their rivals losing to  Cleator Moor Celtic  on  the last day of the season.
 
Martin  Swales'  side  were  deposed  from pole position by  Boro  who  enjoy  a two-points lead over their rivals and with an uncatchable goals difference.
 
They  took  their  goals  tally  to  an  amazing  136  in  34  games  when  they comfortably  defeated Annfield Plain, who boasted an unbeaten record  stretching back to last September.
 
But  Boro  were in no mood to concede either points or goals. Nathan  Cook  gave them  an  interval advantage and five minutes into the second period  Joel  Ramm doubled the lead.
 
With  seven  minutes remaining, Josh Greening beat the offside trap and  he  was again on target with just a minute left on the clock.
 
Silksworth  are ending the season with a flourish and made it four wins in  five games, defeating Boldon CA for the first time in the Wearside League.
 
Goalkeeper  Andrew  Hunter  twice parried a shot from Martin Armstrong  but  was beaten at the third attempt. It was Armstrong's initial goal for the club.
 
Eoin  Shannon  tapped  in wide of Hunter and with only 10 minutes  remaining  an exciting  finale  was  set  up as Chris Robinson beat  Silksworth  keeper  David McInley.
 
Silksworth held on and will finish at least sixth from bottom.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House  returned  from Cumbria pointless  after  suffering  a two-goals defeat at Windscale.
 
An  excellent  move  involving player manager Mattie Henney  and  Danny  Rowland ended  with  Peter  O'Donnel finding the top corner of the net and in  the  25th minute Shaun Pollen rode a challenge before slotting home.
 
Tommy  Dobbing's  team  ended  the  game with only 10 men  after  a  player  was injured and they had already used their substitutes.
 
Third-top  Teesside  Athletic went down 2-1 to New Marske for whom Shaun  Mackin bagged  a  brace  of goals before James Kesterton reduced the arrears  near  the end.
 
Two  penalties  by Tom Orton and Mark Weldon were no more than consolations  for Coxhoe who by then had conceded five goals to Cleator Moor Celtic.
 
Lee  Dunn (2), Robert Fowler and Gary George had the Cumbrians four goals up  by half  time  and early in the second period, Craig Devine was another  player  to fire home from the spot.

SCARBOROUGH  Town  require just four points from their last three games  to  pip
Ryhope  CW  for  the championship, and this is assuming  the  Wearsiders  defeat
their rivals next week.
 
Martin  Swales' side suffered a rare defeat last night which could prove  fatal.
Easington  Colliery  won  with  an only goal from Kevin Devine  who  fired  past
goalkeeper Josh Carmichael in the 20th minute.
 
Ryhope  enjoyed  a  lot  of possession during the second  period  and  Colliers'
goalkeeper James Winter twice denied Mark Davison with brilliant saves.
 
Scarborough  also  conceded  points  when New Marske held them to  a  2-2  draw.
 
Richie  Playforth and Sam Garvie (pen) netted for New Marske with Josh  Greening
and  Nathan  Cook  (pen) on target for Boro who are four  points  behind  Ryhope
with two games in hand and a significantly better goals difference.
 
It's  been  a  difficult season for Silksworth but 10 points from  the  last  18
convinces manager Steven Smith that his side has turned the corner.
 
They  just  edged Jarrow with a goal by Gary Tyzack who followed the  ball  into
the net after his first effort had been parried.
 
"They  beat  us  7-1  in the earlier game and our  performance  last  night  and
recent results bode well for next season," claimed Smith.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  need  to win their last game if they are  to  avoid  finishing
second from bottom to wooden spoonists Willington.
 
Following  a  goal-less first half Wolviston went ahead through Jamie Owens  and
on the hour, Owens doubled his team's advantage.
 
There  was  no way back for Coxhoe as Owens set up Danny Shield for  Wolviston's
third goal.
 
Teesside  Athletic  are third-top following victory at Kirkbymoorside thanks  to
an  own  goal by Aaron Rivis and one by Jamie Lee. Uhi Ehimu had  levelled  from
the penalty spot.

A  nail-biting  climax  to the Wearside League is in prospect as Ryhope  CW  and
Scarborough Town continue to battle it out for the championship.
 
Both  sides  won  last  night,  leaving Martin  Swales'  team  just  two  points
ahead  of  the Seasiders who have a couple of games in hand and a  significantly
better goals difference.
 
Ryhope  have two games to play, against Easington Colliery at home on  Wednesday
and at Scarborough on Saturday, May 8.
 
Boro  still have five fixtures to fulfill, including the Sunderland  Shipowners'
Cup Final with Teesside Athletic on Bank Holiday Monday.
 
Before  then,  they  meet  New Marske tomorrow night  before  lining-up  against
in-form Annfield Plain on Saturday.
 
Then  comes  what could be a deciding game with Ryhope and on May 15 Boro go  to
Cleator Moor Celtic.
 
Ryhope  will aim to win their last two matches and hope that Scarborough's  busy
programme takes its toll on them.
 
There  were  no signs last night, however, that either side was wilting.  Ryhope
comfortably saw off the challenge from third-placed Teesside Athletic.
 
A  well  delivered  corner by David Newby was headed in by Richie Jordan  on  20
minutes  and before the interval another flag kick was fired home from the  edge
of the penalty area by Neil Moan.
 
In  the  second  period, Newby was again the provider for Jordan  to  score  his
second goal and cement a 3-0 victory.
 
Scarborough  won  an  eventful game at Boldon CA by a  four-goals  margin.  Josh
Greening  and Joel Ramm both beat goalkeeper Robert Clark inside the opening  11
minutes.
 
Worse  was  to  follow for the South Tynesiders when Mark Williams was  shown  a
straight red card in the 35th minute.
 
Just  before  the interval, Martin Brown made it three and James  Whitehead  put
through his own goal mid-way through the second period.
 
In  the last minute, Boldon went down to nine men as Nick Quinn was sent off for
committing a foul when he was the last defender.
 
Annfield  Plain, unbeaten since September, have a good chance to finish in third
spot.
 
After  being  fourth-from-bottom, they are now fourth-top after winning  18  and
drawing six of their last 24 fixtures.
 
Their  latest success was at Wolviston where goals by Aaron Robertson and  Colin
Snailham  (pen) proved sufficient. Glen Walker was credited with the home side's
only goal.
 
Hartlepool  were thumped 6-0 at New Marske for whom Sam Garvie (2), Mark Dawson,
Shaun  Howes,  Craig  Gibbon  and  Stephen  Barker  all  beat  overworked  Pools
goalkeeper Mark Bell.

RYHOPE  CW's  chances of winning the Wearside League championship  were  boosted when  Scarborough  Town  conceded two crucial points against  Ashbrooke  Belford House at Silksworth last night.
 
It  was  a  close call for the Seasiders who were heading for  what  would  have been  only  their  third  defeat  of the season until  Joel  Ramm  headed  in  a dramatic last-minute equaliser.
 
Tommy  Dobbing's  side  had  led for an hour with a marvellous  goal  from  Adam McGuinness whose volley crashed into the top corner of the net.
 
Scarborough  are  seven  points behind Ryhope, now with only two games  in  hand although they do enjoy a considerably better goals difference.
 
Easington  Colliery  moved into the top six with an easy 4-1 win at  Boldon  CA.
 
Andrew  Richardson and Andrew Appleby both fired past goalkeeper Chris  Anderson in  the  opening  20  minutes but it was not until 15  minutes  from  time  that Graeme Watson made it three.
 
Within  a  minute  Mark  Williams  reduced the deficit with  a  free  kick  from outside  the penalty area and on 90 minutes John Harrison completed an  emphatic victory for the Colliers.
 
Teesside  Athletic remain third after winning at Wolviston with goals early  and late in the game from Draz Dauskra and Patrick Wheatley.
 
Annfield  Plain  are ending the season with a flourish and they stay fourth.  An only goal from Dean Lee was enough against Jarrow at Derwent Park.
 
New  Marske rifled 14 goals on Saturday but managed just one in the last  minute at Hartlepool where Shaun Mackin cancelled out Phil Ross's strike.

THE  championship  is  still all to play for by Ryhope CW and  Scarborough  Town after the pair again won at the week-end.
 
But  whereas  the Wearsiders just edged neighbours Silksworth, Boro romped to  a big  win  at  Coxhoe  Athletic to further boost  their  already  superior  goals difference.
 
The  local derby  at  Silksworth  lived up to expectations with  just  one  goal dividing the sides at the final whistle.
 
Jonathan Davis gave Martin Swales' team a 35th minute lead from the penalty spot and David Newby made it two, 10 minutes into the second half.
 
Gary  Tyzack threw Steven Smith's side a lifeline with his 65th-minute strike to produce an exciting finale but Ryhope held on for three crucial points.
 
Scarborough,  eight  points  off  the  top  with three  games  in  hand  on  the Wearsiders, hit Coxhoe Athletic for six as the goals flowed from Luke Jenkinson, with  a  hat-trick, Joel Ramm, Jamie Patterson and Joshua Green. Paul Orton  and Stephen Oakley replied.
 
Houghton  Town  travelled  to  Hall Lane with high  expectations  of  inflicting another  defeat  on  Willington, who look certain to be wooden-spoonists  for  a second successive season.
 
An  only goal by Michael Weston in the second minute upset the form-book but did little  for  Willington's position at the bottom of the table. They still  trail Coxhoe by eight points with only four games to play.
 
A  last-minute  penalty  by Peter Benson, his second goal of  the  game,  earned Ashbrooke  Belford House the points at Hartlepool for whom Ronnie Dunn cancelled out Benson's first strike.
 
Ian  Davies then fired Pools ahead only for David Scott to restore parity before Benson's dramatic late winner.
 
A hat-trick by James Kesterton which took his goals tally to 42 consigned Boldon CA to defeat at third-top Teesside Athletic.
 
Annfield  Plain remain fourth after Shaun Sager (2), Dominic Elliott and Stephen Kirkbride  were  the marksmen against Wolviston who managed only one  goal  from Adam Preston.
 
Gary  Taylor's 89th-minute goal earned Jarrow a point against Windscale who  led courtesy of Dean Rodgers and Graeme Goulding after Chris Lunn had netted for the home team.
 
Guisborough  Town HC have now conceded 126 goals after being hit with a  massive 14-1 defeat at New Marske.
 
Richard  Playforth rifled five goals, Shaun Mackin struck four times  with  Mark Dawson  (2),  Michael  Mackin,  Stephen Barker and an own  goal  by  Mike  Usher adding  to  the  woes  of  the visitors,  for  whom  Craig  Marshall  managed  a consolation goal.

ALTHOUGH  Ryhope  CW  enjoy  an  eight-points  lead,  the  championship  is  for Scarborough Town to lose after both sides won last night.
 
First-half  goals by Richard Jordan, who produced a good finish from outside the penalty  area, and Phil Hall, proved sufficient for Martin Swales' side  against Jarrow at Perth Green.
 
Scarborough  have  three  games in hand on the Wearsiders  and  a  significantly better goals difference which was boosted at  Hartlepool.
 
Although  Chris  Archer  cancelled out Josh Greening's early  goal,  Pools  were always on the back foot but their spirits rose when goalkeeper Mark Bell saved a Greening penalty.
 
It  proved  to be only temporary respite, however, and quick strikes from  Marty Brown and Greening, who this time made no mistake from the spot, put Boro firmly in command.
 
In  stoppage time Nathan Cook made it four and the Seasiders have now scored  an incredible  115 goals in 27 games. Equally impressive is the fact that they have leaked just 23, a figure matched only by Ryhope.
 
Houghton  Town trailed to an 18th-minute goal by Richie Playforth at New  Marske and harboured hopes of saving the game in the second period.
 
Their  aspirations ended when Kristian Kamara and Shaun Mackin both beat  keeper Shaun Robinson in the space of six early second-half minutes.
 
Easington  Colliery  enjoyed  a five-goals romp at Silksworth who  were  blasted when the visitors struck four times in 12 minutes immediately on resuming.
 
Andrew  Appleby's  effort  was all that separated the teams at the  end  of  the opening 45 minutes during which Silksworth's defence had looked solid.
 
But they collapsed and the goals flowed from Danny Flounders, Andrew Richardson, Craig Snowdon and Appleby.
 
Steven  Usher  was an early scorer for Boldon CA but another 52 minutes  elapsed before James Hudson doubled his side's advantage.
 
Stephen  Clifford  raised  the hopes of second-bottom Coxhoe Athletic  with  his 80th-minute header but the South Tynesiders held on to claim all three points.
 
Top  four  sides  Teesside  Athletic  and Annfield  Plain  ended  goal-less  and Kirkbymoorside roared to victory at Guisborough Town HC thanks to Jonathan Brown (2),  Alex  Strickland and Lee Alexander. Lee Millward was the home team's  only scorer.

EASINGTON  Colliery upset the form book in a big way when they defeated  leaders Ryhope CW to book a Wearside League Cup Final with New Marske.
 
Martin Swales' side has lost just once in 28 league games and were favourites to sustain  a  challenge  for the double.
 
They made a dream start taking the lead with a free kick by Glen Moan after just 15 minutes but five minutes later, they were reduced to 10 men.
 
James  Dunn  handled  on  the line and was red-carded  and  from  the  resultant penalty, Robert Huntley equalised.
 
Despite  playing for 70 minutes with a man short, Ryhope matched their opponents but  were  unable to get back into the game following Haydn  Pace's  75th-minute strike for the Colliers.
 
There  was  another  shock in the other semi final. Scarborough Town  have  been scoring  goals  for fun in recent weeks but managed only one at New  Marske  who went through, courtesy of Kristian Kamara and Richard Playforth.
 
Only nine minutes remained as Billy Logan threw a lifeline to Boro, who will now concentrate on attempting to pip Ryhope for the championship.
 
Following  a disappointing mid-week performance, Ashbrooke Belford House bounced back  to form at Guisborough Town HC where they went nap through Martin  Deacon, with a brace, Kenny Taylor, Peter Benson and Ryan Steele.
 
David  McKinley was another player to score twice leading Silksworth to  victory at  Wolviston  while goals from Daniel Rowland and Dean Rogers were just  enough for Windscale against Boldon CA, for whom Chris Robertson had restored parity.
 
Jonathan  Matthews  and  Peter  Kane  were  Jarrow's  matchwinners  at  home  to Kirkbymoorside  whose  lone scorer was Alex Rivis and in the bottom four  clash, Hartlepool defeated Coxhoe Athletic with a seventh-minute goal by Danny Corbett.
 
Basement  side  Willington  also  lost  by a  single  goal  when  Shaun  Sagar's fifth-minute  effort was sufficient for Annfield Plain who have moved into fifth place - their highest rating to date.
 
Following  two poor performances at Easter which ended their hopes of  finishing in  the  top two, Teesside Athletic won a seven-goals thriller at  Cleator  Moor Celtic with a hat-trick from James Kesterton and one goal by Greg Booth.
 
Lee  Dunn,  Barry Irving and Craig Scott responded for the Cumbrians who  remain fourth, three points behind the Teessiders.

RYHOPE  CW  are  anxiously  looking over their  shoulders  as  Scarborough  Town continue to make inroads into their lead at the top of the table.
 
The  Seasiders  have  been in electrifying form recently and are  now  just  six points  behind their rivals with three games in hand and a significantly  better goals difference.
 
Their  latest success came at the expense of New Marske who conceded late  goals to  Georgie  Rose  and Mark Barber after Philip Peggs had  cancelled  out  Wayne Brooksby's first-half strike.
 
Easington  Colliery  consolidated fifth position with a comfortable 4-1  success over bottom-of-the-table Willington whose only marksman was Daniel Beaney.
 
By  the  time he scored, the Colliers were ahead courtesy of John Harrison  with a brace and Mark Ellison and towards the end, Chris Pearson also found the net.
 
Ashbrooke    Belford   House   gave   a   disappointing   performance    against Kirkbymoorside at Silksworth.
 
Paul  Hodgson  fired in a direct free kick to give the Yorkshiremen an  interval lead   and   Alex  Strickland  struck  twice  before  Lee  Harrison  claimed   a consolation for Tommy Dobbing's team.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  remain  second bottom following defeat at Jarrow  where  Peter Kane (2) and Chris Lunn scored the three goals in the opening 45 minutes.
 
There  was no shortages of goals as Annfield Plain defeated  third-from-basement Hartlepool in a nine-goals thriller.
 
Shaun  Sager, with a hat-trick, Colin Snailham, Jonathan Kemp and Graeme  Wilson netted  for the home side with Daniel Corbett, Kyle McDermott and Anthony Davies responding for Pools.
 
There  were  even  more  goals at Guisborough Town HC where  Windscale  won  9-3 courtesy  of  Dean  Rogers (3), Alan Blair (2), Andrew Hurley, Dan  Gullen,  Dan Rowlands and Dion Barnes. Philip Jobling, Lewis Tidy and Paul Milward replied.

RYHOPE  CW  yesterday celebrated winning the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup  for  the first time in 44 years when they defeated Cleator Moor Celtic by an only goal on Wearside.
 
A  closely-fought  contest was anticipated between two sides in the top four  of the  Wearside League and although there were opportunities at both ends, Richard Jordan's strike on the stroke of half time was the only one accepted.
 
Following  a  goalmouth scramble the ball was partially cleared to the  edge  of the  penalty  area where Jordan immediately delivered a clinical finish wide  of goalkeeper Craig Devine.
 
Ryhope  carved out the better chances in the second period with Martin  Metcalfe just  wide  before Jordan's drive rebounded from the underside of  the  crossbar back into play.
 
Barry  Irving had a great opportunity to level 10 minutes from time when one  on one with Neil Atkinson but the goalkeeper came out on top.
 
Five  minutes  later Jordan fired against the post and the ball  rebounded  into the hands of Celtic keeper Devine.
 
It  was  not  all  good  news  for  the  Wearsiders  since  their  only  serious contenders  for  the championship, Scarborough Town thumped  third-top  Teesside Athletic 7-1.
 
Georgie  Rose,  Josh  Greening, Joe Danby, Wayne Brooksby, Dean  Craig,  Matthew Brown and Nathan Cook all beat Athletic goalkeeper Jamie Fleming.
 
Jamie  Clarke  claimed  a consolation for the Teessiders before being  sent  off with the score 3-1.

LEADERS  Ryhope  CW  were  looking  for Houghton Town to do  them  a  favour  at Scarborough  Town  but  it was not to be as Steve Patton's side was hit  with  a nine-goals blitz.
 
The  margin of defeat was certainly surprising because Houghton have developed a mean defensive streak in recent weeks.
 
They  were  clearly second best at the Seaside however  and must  have  wondered what had hit them, especially during the opening half.
 
Boro  were unstoppable and it was virtually one-way traffic as the goals  flowed from Josh Greening, with a hat-trick, Joel Ramm, Wayne Brooksby, Mark Barber and Joe Danby.
 
Although the visitors' defence tightened up after the break, Greening still took his personal tally to four and Danby also scored again.
 
Houghton's   solitary  consolation  was  credited  to  Brad  Freeman  who   beat goalkeeper  Richard  Ossai,  playing  his last game before  going  to  coach  in America.
 
Scarborough  remain  second,  12  points behind Ryhope CW  with  five  games  in hand on the Wearsiders..
 
Martin  Swales' side had a close call in the local derby with Ashbrooke  Belford House.
 
Greg  Swansbury  headed  them into a 15th-minute lead but Tommy  Dobbing's  team turned  the tables as Kenny Taylor and Paul Robertson struck early in the second period.
 
With  20  minutes remaining, James Farrell restored parity and 10  minutes  from time, Glen Moan hit the winner.
 
Easington  Colliery  were  surprisingly well beaten at Kirkbymoorside  who  were ahead at the break with a hat-trick by Alex Strickland.
 
Chris  Wallace had cancelled out his first goal but this was to be the Colliers' only success and late in the game the home side went nap through Umi Ehima (pen) and Ryan Rivis.
 
Paul  Legg gave Coxhoe Athletic an interval lead at home to Silksworth who  went ahead  courtesy of Paul Carr and Adam Brown. With 14 minutes left on the  clock, Peter Bulmer claimed an equaliser and a point for Coxhoe.
 
After  establishing  a three-goals advantage thanks to Peter Kane (2) and  Chris Lunn,  Jarrow  survived  a late fightback by Hartlepool for whom  Danny  Corbett (pen) and Karl Winspear netted.
 
Colin  Snailham  scored both goals in Annfield Plain's victory at New Marske  as did Nathan Summersgill in Wolviston's defeat of Guisborough Town HC.
 
Bottom  side  Willington suffered a five-goals rout at Cleator Moor  Celtic  for whom  Barry Irving (2), Lee Dunn (pen), Chris Thornton and Gary George all  beat goalkeeper Chris Slaughter.
 
It  looks  as  if  only  Scarborough Town will  qualify  for  promotion  to  the Skilltrainingltd Northern League.
 
Easington  Colliery  appear  to be out of the running as  do  Teesside  Athletic following  their defeat at Windscale for whom Ryan Lowery, Dean Rogers and Shaun Pollin netted.

Ryhope  CW  anticipated a difficult game at Cleator Moor Celtic on Saturday  but
three  goals  in  the  opening 26 minutes proved too big  an  obstacle  for  the
Cumbrians, whose title hopes have all but ended.
 
The Wearsiders though, continue their quest for honours and the race now appears
to be between Martin Swales' side and Scarborough Town.
 
Martin  Metcalfe  was first to strike on 20 minutes and two minutes  later  John
Butler converted a penalty.
 
Worse  was  to follow for the home side as Butler headed in his second goal  and
although  Lee  Dunn reduced the deficit before the interval, Ryhope  were  never
seriously stretched.
 
They  are  now  12  points  ahead  of Scarborough  who  were  on  cup  duty  but
the Seasiders have five games in hand on Ryhope.
 
Teesside  Athletic are third but they appear to have too much to do after losing
to  Easington  Colliery,  for whom captain Chris Pearson scored  the  only  goal
mid-way through the second period.
 
Following a heavy defeat in their previous game, Ashbrooke Belford House bounced
back to form easily seeing off the challenge from Guisborough Town HC with goals
from Michael Charlton (2), and Martin Deacon.
 
Silksworth  held their own in the first half at Annfield Plain but conceded four
times  in  the  second 45 minutes. Aaron Robertson and  Stephen  Kirkbride  each
bagged a brace of goals.
 
Jarrow  staged  a second half rally at home to Wolviston who were coasting  the
game  at  the  interval  after  Paul Ambrose and Guy  Whatmore  (2)  had  beaten
goalkeeper Tony Orr.
 
A  minute  into  the  second  period,  however,  Christie  Elliott  reduced  the
three-goals  arrears  and after Peter Kane also struck, Elliott grabbed  a  late
equaliser.
 
Willington  remain  bottom after losing by the odd goal in three to  Hartlepool,
who  are  two  places above them. Carl Winspear and Kyle  McDermott  netted  for
Pools with Callum Heeney on target in the last couple of minutes.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic are second from the basement. Michael Owens and Stephen  Oakley
were  the  marksmen  against  Windscale for whom Andrew Hurley  and  Dan  Gullen
replied.
 
Michael Alexander was Boldon CA's only scorer at Kirkbymoorside who won courtesy
of Darren Collier (pen) and Ryan Rivis.
 
Scarborough  Town  romped into the final of the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup  when
they  hit  New Marske for six. Mark Barber, Georgie Rose, Josh  Greening  (pen),

Ryhope CW were only able to take 12 players to Guisborough Town HC last night but still emerged winners by an only goal scored by Chris Trewick in the 50th minute.
 
The Wearsiders had at least four excellent scoring opportunities which they failed to accept and with only one goal separating the sides, Guisborough kept up the challenge until the final whistle but Martin Swales' side held on.
 
They lead Scarborough Town by nine points but the Seasiders have four games in hand. Boro had hoped to play their first ever home floodlit match with New Marske but the match was called off half an hour after the scheduled kick-off time because the lights failed.
 
Ashbrooke Belford House were surprisingly hit for six at home to Teesside Athletic who moved into third position, enhancing their chances of promotion to the Skilltrainingltd Northern League.
 
James Kesterton is a regular scorer and he rifled a hat-trick with the Teessiders' other goals credited to Dale Mendum, Stephen Thompson and Grant Bulmer.
 
Annfield Plain were ahead through Roy Gordon and Stephen Kirkbride but Boldon CA hit back  to level the score thanks to  Mark Williams and Chris Robertson. With just three minutes remaining Kirkbride scored his second goal and Plain's winner.

It remains nip and tuck at the top of the table with Ryhope CW's lead over
Scarborough Town now only six points, with the Seasiders having three games in
hand on their rivals.

Martin Swales' side were favourites to win at Hartlepool, who started the day
second from bottom but in the event they were lucky to claim one point.

Colin McCullough shocked the visitors when he found the net in a goalmouth
scramble after only nine minutes and when Ryhope had John Butler sent off in the
76th minute, the omens were not good.

With the game deep into stoppage time, John Davis saved Ryhope just when it
seemed his side was about to suffer what would have been only their second
defeat of the season.

In contrast, Scarborough Town enjoyed an eight-goals romp over Wolviston, whose
defence has been one of the strongest in the league.

The Teessiders though had no answer to Boro's penetrating attack and the goals
flowed from Josh Greening, who rifled a hat-trick in the first nine minutes,
Jamie Lawrence, Dean Craig, Matthew Brown, Robbie Hawkes and Joe Danby.

Houghton Town moved into the top half of the table with an excellent 3-2 victory
over Windscale in Cumbria.

The home side scored first and last courtesy of Dean Rogers and Peter O'Donnell.
In between, Stephen Harrison, Brad Freeman and Richard Hall found the net for
Steve Patton's side.

Jarrow scored their first goal in five games but Peter Kane's header
wasn't enough at home to New Marske, who won with strikes from Stephen Barker
and Shaun Mackin.

Coxhoe Athletic were no match for Annfield Plain who scored twice in each half.
Dean Lee and Stephen Kirkbride were the early marksmen before John Clarke and
Aaron Robertson also got in on the scoring act.

Brothers Stephen and Mark Williams gave Boldon CA a perfect start and although
Adam Blenkinsopp threw Willington a ray of hope, the South Tynesiders finished
strongly taking their tally to four thanks to Michael Meek and Jason Donnelly.

An only goal two minutes from the end by James Kesterton was sufficient for
Teesside Athletic against Kirkbymoorside.

The result lifted the Teessiders into third position but they still have a lot
to do if they are to realise their promotion aspirations.

Guisborough  played  almost  the entire second half with 10  men  following  the
dismissal  of  Stephen Reid and on the hour Danny Cornell was  also  red-carded,
leaving the home side with only nine players.
 
Jarrow  have  not  scored in four games after losing at Houghton  Town.  On  the
stroke  of  half  time Michael Curtis set up Kevin Gordon who  rifled  the  ball
into the net.
 
Five  minutes  later 17-year old Richie Goodman celebrated his debut heading  in
a corner.
 
Windscale,  who  at  one stage were too near the bottom for  comfort,  confirmed
that  they are a much improved side when they held Ashbrooke Belford House to  a
draw at Silksworth.
 
Lee  Harrison  gave Tommy Dobbing's side the lead on 30 minutes and  20  minutes
from the end Adam Blair equalised.

Leaders  Ryhope  CW  were  taken to the wire by holders  Annfield  Plain  before booking their place in the Final of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup.
 
An only goal by Jimmy Farrell on 15 minutes was all that separated the sides and the   Wearsiders  will  meet  Cleator  Moor  Celtic,  comfortable  winners  over Wolviston.
 
Lee Dunn and Chris Thornton (2) had the Cumbrians well ahead before Liam Jackson claimed a late consolation goal for the visitors.
 
Second-top  Scarborough Town also have their eyes on a double and progressed  to the  Third Round of the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup at Jarrow, who ended the game with nine men.
 
Josh  Green  broke the deadlock three minutes into the second period and in  the 68th minute Joel Ramm converted a penalty.
 
Liam  Poppleton  was immediately sent off and Chris Maw followed him 10  minutes from the end. In stoppage time Billy Logan completed a comprehensive victory for the Seasiders.
 
Houghton  Town  conceded  their  first goals in open play for  five  games  when Windscale won a thriller at Leyburn Grove.
 
The  Cumbrians  roared  into a two-goals lead courtesy of Dan  Gullen  and  Dean Rogers  but Brad Freeman reduced the deficit with a 46th-minute penalty and four minutes later restored parity.
 
The  scene was set for an exciting final 40 minutes and with the game  seemingly heading  for  a draw, Windscale snatched victory with a last-minute  penalty  by Rogers.
 
Silksworth's   defence  was  considerably  tighter  at  Kirkbymoorside  but  the Wearsiders  returned  home pointless after Johnny Brown scored the only goal  20 minutes from time.
 
Easington  Colliery consolidated fifth place with victory over Ashbrooke Belford House.
 
Robert  Huntley  and  Chris Tarn had them two goals up but  after  Lee  Harrison replied  from the penalty spot, Tommy Dobbing's side was in with a chance  until John Harrison restored the Colliers' two-goals cushion.

Willington  parted  company  with  manager  Max Reece  before  their  game  with Guisborough Town HC.
 
Paul  Mullen  and Robert Lee took over but failed to start on a winning note  as the  visitors  scored twice in the second period through Lewis Tidy  and  Philip Jopling.

Ryhope  CW  were  without  a  fixture on  Saturday  and  Scarborough  Town  took advantage, reducing the difference between the pair to seven points.
 
On  a  day  when  goals flowed, the Seasiders  became  leading  scorers  hitting fourth-top Cleator Moor Celtic for five.
 
Their  hero  was Wayne Brooksby who celebrated his return from Australia with  a hat-trick.  Georgie  Rowlands  and Joe Danby also struck  with  Robbie  Fowler's strike no more than a consolation for the Cumbrians.
 
Houghton  Town,  who haven't conceded a goal in open play for five  games,  were another team to rack up five goals on  their visit to Guisborough Town HC.
 
Man of the match was Brad Freeman who was on target four times. Houghton's other goal  was  conceded  by  a defender and the two  which  Guisborough  netted  for themselves were both penalties converted by Jonathan Cairns.
 
Silksworth  conceded  five  goals  at home  to  second-bottom  Hartlepool  whose marksmen were Chris Archer, with a hat-trick, Daniel Corbett and Anthony Davis.
 
Willington  remain  at  the  basement after they too suffered a  5-0  defeat  at Teesside Athletic who are up to third to maintain their challenge for promotion.
 
Dale Mendum rifled a hat-trick with James Kesterton and Stuart Poulter adding to the woes of Willington who have leaked 87 goals, the most by any team.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House made it 11 goals in two games when  they  surprisingly romped home at Boldon CA, who had been in good form.
 
There  was  no  stopping Tommy Dobbing's side, however. Peter Benson  and  David Baxter each bagged a brace with Martin Deacon completing the scoring.
 
Five  goals were also recorded at Wolviston with Windscale scoring three of them courtesy  of  Kevin Oliver, Andrew Hurley and Rick Parnaby, with  a  last-minute winner. Lee Butterworth and Danny Shields replied.
 
No  fewer  than 33 goals were scored in six games but the remaining  fixture  at Kirkbymoorside  was  goal-less as Coxhoe Athletic, third from bottom,  gained  a useful point.
 
Easington  Colliery reached the Third Round of the Wearside League Cup defeating Annfield  Plain  3-2 thanks to goals from Chris Tarn, Robert Huntley  and  Haydn Pace. Graeme Wilson and Stephen Kirkbride kept the visitors in the tie until the final whistle.
 
Jarrow  went  out to New Marske whose matchwinners at Perth Green  were  Michael Mackin and Richard Playforth.

Ryhope  CW just couldn't find a way past the Jarrow defence, despite  dominating their 'home' game which was played at Houghton.
 
"We  would  not have scored if we had played another 90 minutes. It was  one  of those  nights but Jarrow gave a tremendous team performance with goalkeeper Mark English outstanding," observed Ryhope secretary Dougie Benison.
 
The  Wearsiders  extended their lead at the top of the Wearside League to  eight points but Scarborough Town now have three games in hand.
 
Silksworth  had conceded 11 goals in their previous two games and when Wolviston went two up by the hour, another defeat was on the cards.
 
But  Steven Smith's side battled back and deservedly shared the points in a  2-2 draw.
 
Richard  Mills twice beat goalkeeper David McKinley before Owen Shannon  reduced the  deficit in the 65th minute. With 10 minutes remaining, Andrew Place hit the equaliser.
 
Easington  Colliery  had  no such problems in their game with  Coxhoe  Athletic. The  Colliers' made a dream start, scoring after just six minutes with a  Martin Langley header.
 
Haydn Pace struck twice in the space of three minutes early in the second period and  but for the brilliance of goalkeeper Tom Orton, Coxhoe would have  suffered an even heavier defeat.
 
New Marske were another side in scoring mode as they crushed bottom-of-the-table Willington  10-0. Shaun Mackin and Richard Playforth both rifled hat-tricks with Shaun Howes (2), Stephen Barker and Andrew Dawson also getting in on the scoring act.
 
In  contract,  Annfield Plain failed to score at Windscale where they  dominated for  90  minutes, hitting the woodwork on several occasions. In  stoppage  time, Dan  Gullen  had  the  ball  in the net for the Cumbrians  but  his  effort  was disallowed.

Once again, the elements played havoc with the programme and only two games went ahead.
 
Houghton Town's fortunes have certainly improved in the last few weeks following the eight-goals drubbing they suffered at the hands of Boldon CA.
 
Goalkeeper  Shaun Robinson, who returned to the club after the debacle, has kept a clean sheet in three of four games and has been beaten only by a penalty.
 
Easington  Colliery  were  the latest side to find Steve Patton's  defence  well organised  and  resolute and a far cry from the rearguard which  conceded  eight goals in the early-season fixture at Welfare Park.
 
There was a blow to Houghton after just 10 minutes when Kevin Gordon was carried off with a ankle injury and replaced by Ian Collins.
 
Patton  had  to reorganise his line-up and for a time Easington  took  advantage with Andrew Gartland and David Sewell both needing to clear from the goal-line.
 
Gradually,  the  home  side  came more into the game but late  on  the  Colliers pressed for a winning goal which was denied them by the impressive Robinson.
 
Hartlepool  journeyed  into Cumbria and after holding Windscale until  the  70th minute, ended well beaten.
 
Dan  Gullen  broke the deadlock and five minutes later he again beat  goalkeeper Ian Davies, who was the man of the match.
 
The  keeper  was  again powerless to prevent Ryan Fitzwilliam putting  the  game beyond  the  reach  of Pools and a minute from time Lee Dixon  completed  a  4-0 victory.
 
Pools  remain second bottom while Windscale are now fifth from the basement,  15 points ahead of Willington who prop up the table.

Ashbrooke  Belford House gained ample revenge for an early-season defeat at  the
hands  of  local rivals Silksworth when they enjoyed a six-goals romp  with  the
Colliers on Saturday.
 
Steven  Smith's side were on the back foot from the kick-off. Dale Wells  headed
past  Anthony Mustard after just five minutes and in the 20th minute  Silksworth
suffered a double blow.
 
Gary  Tyzack  was sent off and Peter Benson converted the penalty. Worse was  to
follow  and  when  Tommy Dobbing's team were awarded a  second  spot-kick,  once
again Benson made no mistake.
 
Just  before  the interval Paul Robertson made it four and  although  Silksworth
did  not  concede another goal for 40 minutes, late strikes from Chris  Charlton
and  Martin  Deacon,  with  the goal of the game,  sent  Ashbrooke's  fans  into
raptures.
 
Belford  House  moved into fifth position and Ryhope CW's lead over  Scarborough
Town is now 10 points after their game at Guisborough Town HC was called off.
 
The Seasiders though, with three games in hand on the Wearsiders, had their work
cut out before defeating lowly Windscale.
 
Joel  Ramm  was  a first-half scorer but when Nathan Cook was sent  off  on  the
hour, Scarborough were forced to defend.
 
Windscale  failed to make the best use of their chances and Josh Greening  fired
in  a  second  goal for the home side. The Cumbrians also went down  to  10  men
with the dismissal of Ryan Fitzwilliam just before the end.
 
Jarrow  did  the leading pair some good when they surprisingly routed  third-top
Cleator Moor Celtic in Cumbria.
 
Christopher  Moore  and  Tony Ord each bagged a brace of goals and  Liam  Clarke
also struck in a decisive 5-0 victory.
 
Teesside  Athletic,  who together with Scarborough and Easington  Colliery  have
applied  for  promotion, enhanced their chances with an easy victory  at  Coxhoe
Athletic.
 
Billy  Millington,  Dale  Mendum and James Kesterton just about had  the  points
secured at the interval and late in the game, Mendum was again on target.
 
After  conceding  a 10th-minute lead to Shaun Gregory, who has just returned  to
Wolviston,  Boldon  CA produced a spirited second-half fight-back  which  earned
them a 3-1 victory.
 
Chris  Robertson  levelled  and after Shaun Heads put the  South  Tynesiders  in
front, Michael Meek added to his goal-scoring exploits.
 
Hartlepool  won the bottom two clash at Willington by a comfortable 5-2  margin.
 
Daniel  Corbett  (2) and Kyle McDermott had them three goals up inside  half  an
hour.  Dane Irving (pen) struck for the Hall Lane team but Corbett completed his
hat-trick before the interval.
 
Anthony  Davis  took his team's total to five and although Scott  Hastie  struck
late  in  the game, his goal was no more than a consolation for  Willington  who
now trail Pools by five points.
 
Ryan  Rivis  bagged a brace of goals in Kirkbymoorside's 2-2 draw with  Annfield
Plain whose marksmen were Dominic Elliott and John Clarke (pen).
 
In  addition  to Ryhope's game being postponed, Houghton Town's fixture  at  New
Marske was also called off.

Promotion  hopefuls  Easington  Colliery  leap-frogged  New  Marske  into  fifth position  when  they  romped to a 6-1 victory in last  night's  Wearside  League game at Welfare Park.
 
The  Colliers,  who suffered an unexpected defeat at the weekend,  were  quickly into  their  stride  and it was against the run of play when  Richard  Playforth fired New Marske ahead on 18 minutes.
 
The  setback  acted as a spur to Easington and when Andrew Appleby  was  brought down, Stephen Manson levelled from the penalty spot.
 
Just  before  the interval Andrew Richardson was on target and when he  added  a second goal before the hour, the Seasiders were on the back foot.
 
In  the later stages, the Colliers were rampant and took their tally to six with three  goals  in  the  final eight minutes from John  Harrison  (2)  and  Darren Atkinson.

Ryhope CW had cause for a double celebration on Saturday.
 
Not  only did they increase their lead at the top of the table to 13 points, but they  became the leading scorers with 77 goals when they hit Coxhoe Athletic for seven at Recreation Park.
 
Paul  Laverick's  side  were on the back foot almost from the  start  as  Ryhope raced into a two-goals lead through Martin Metcalfe and a John Butler penalty.
 
Before  the  interval, Butler was again on target and there was no  respite  for Coxhoe in the second half either.
 
Greg  Swansbury  scored  his first goal in four seasons, James Farrell  made  it five  and  hotshot  striker Butler struck twice in the last 20 minutes  to  take his tally in the game to four goals.
 
Scarborough   Town,   whose  Sunderland  Shipowners'  Cup  tie  at  Jarrow   was postponed, stay second and have four games in hand on Ryhope.
 
Houghton  Town  will be optimistic that their season is on the turn  after  they conceded just one goal to promotion hopefuls Teesside Athletic.
 
A  third-minute penalty by James Kesterton gave the home side a dream start  but Steve   Patton's  team  battled  back  and  fully  deserved  their   67th-minute equaliser from Kevin Gordon.
 
Easington  Colliery's promotion prospects received a setback at lowly  Windscale for  whom  player manager Matthew Henney has improved results since  his  recent appointment.
 
It  was  Henney  who opened the scoring in the 50th minute and  he  should  have made  it  two  a few minutes later. The Cumbrians though were not to  be  denied and Shaun Pollen ended the Colliers' hopes with his late strike.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House  came back from a two-goals deficit in  their  fixture with  Wolviston  which  was  switched to Silksworth because  Metcalfe  Park  was waterlogged.
 
Paul  Ambrose and Scott Meehan had Wolviston two goals up inside 25 minutes  and after  Peter Benson threw Ashbrooke a lifeline on the stroke of half time,  Dale Wells restored parity with a 35-yard piledriver.
 
Michael  Meek  was  again  in superb form leading Boldon CA to  a  6-0  rout  of Guisborough Town HC.
 
Surprisingly,  however,  it  was  not until the 43rd minute  that  Tony  Renwick opened  the  scoring but in a frenetic 17 minutes early in the second half,  the South Tynesiders struck five times.
 
Man-of-the-match  Meek rifled four goals with Kris Robertson adding to the  woes of Guisborough who have now leaked 72 goals.
 
Willington  have  conceded 77 times after being hit with a seven-goals blitz  by third-top Cleator Moor Celtic at Hall Lane.
 
Robert  Fowler, Chris Thornton and Glynn Edwards each bagged a brace with  Craig Scott also on target for Celtic who are equal on points with Scarborough.
 
Hartlepool  marginally  improved  their position second from  bottom  when  they claimed  a  point  from Kirkbymoorside whose marksmen were Uyieinai  and  Johnny Brown.   Craig  Lobb  and  Danny  Corbett  replied  for  Pools  for  whom  Chris Birbeck missed a 39th-minute penalty.
 
The game between New Marske and Annfield Plain was called off.

Despite the lack of goals, Houghton Town and Silksworth produced an entertaining
game in the Wearside League.
 
Houghton  failed  to take their chances and almost paid the penalty just  before
the end as Andy Place hit the post.
 
Shaun  Robinson was again in form for Houghton and he has now kept clean  sheets
in the two games he has played since returning to the club.
 
Easington  Colliery's  match with New Marske was postponed because half  of  the
pitch was frozen and the other part waterlogged.

Steven  Smith  and David Steel took over the management of Silksworth  in  early December and after losing at Windscale less than 24 hours after being appointed, had to wait until Saturday for their next game.
 
It  was  the Colliers' 350th match and there were celebrations all  round  when they won a nine-goals thriller against Guisborough Town HC.
 
The  home side made a dream start going in front through Anthony Rogerson in the first  minute  and by the interval they were four goals ahead following  further strikes by Andrew Place (2) and Scott Walker.
 
Guisborough  reduced  the deficit courtesy of Paul Millwards and Junior  Masambi but Rogerson was again on target to take his side's tally to five goals.
 
Masambi  again  found  the net but Silksworth finished strongly  and  ended  6-3 winners with David Baker's late effort.
 
Houghton  Town  conceded  eight goals in their previous game and  manager  Steve Patton demanded an immediate response at Wolviston.
 
He was not disappointed. His side kept a clean sheet and an only goal from Kevin Gordon enabled Houghton to erase the memories of their recent form.
 
Ryhope  CW conceded two points at Windscale who led courtesy of Dan Gullen until 10  minutes from time. Glen Moan equalised and the Wearsiders are now 10  points ahead of Scarborough Town, who have three games in hand.
 
Fifth-placed  Ashbrooke Belford House came from behind to win at  Kirkbymoorside who led thanks to Damon Cox.
 
Paul  Robertson  levelled with a thunderous free kick and a minute from the  end David Christie forced the ball home in a goalmouth melee.
 
Willington  moved off the bottom with victory at Coxhoe Athletic, who are  third from  the basement. Lewis Garvie and John Shields netted for the Hall Lane  side with Paul Bulmer keeping Coxhoe in the game until the final whistle.
 
Boldon  CA  scored eight times in their previous game but were on the  receiving end  of  an  8-1 rout by Scarborough Town in the Second Round  of  the  Wearside League Cup.
 
Josh  Greening, with a hat-trick, Luke Jenkinson (2), Neil Waterfield, Joel Ramm and Mark Barber  all struck for Boro with Eric Thompson Boldon's only marksman.
 
Teesside  Athletic went out of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup 4-2 on penalties at Cleator Moor Celtic who twice led through Barry Irving and Lee Dunn.
 
A  brace from James Kesterton kept Athletic in the tie which went to extra  time before penalties decided the outcome.

Another  man-of-the-match  performance  by  John Butler swept Ryhope  CW  to  an emphatic  victory  over Ashbrooke Belford House in last night's local  derby  at Silksworth.
 
Butler  headed his side into a 20th-minute lead before Belford House suffered  a double whammy on 35 minutes.
 
Mark Lawton was sent off for a handling offence and Butler converted the penalty leaving Ashbrooke with a mountain to climb.
 
Midway through the second period hot-shot striker Butler completed his hat-trick and  five  minutes  from time capped a memorable performance, scoring  a  fourth goal to take his season's total to 28.
 
Ryhope  stretched their lead over Scarborough Town, who were without a  fixture, to  nine points but chasing clubs Cleator Moor Celtic and Teesside Athletic both won.
 
Celtic  easily  accounted for Windscale in the Cumbrian derby.  Darren  Johnson, Chris Thornton, Glynn Edwards and Barry Irving struck with Lee Dixon Windscale's only marksman.
 
Teesside  Athletic  visited Willington and had the incentive of  a  sixth-minute goal  from  Sam Young. Stephen Thompson quickly doubled the lead and before  the break  Daniel Drazdauskas added to the woes of the home side with a  spectacular overhead kick.
 
With  20  minutes remaining Josh Binks reduced the deficit but  Willington  were unable to add to his effort and remain entrenched at the bottom of the table.
 
Houghton  Town  are sixth from the basement and have now conceded 70 goals,  the most by any side, after leaking eight to rampant Boldon CA.
 
Goalkeeper Daniel Douglas had a busy night, picking the ball out of the net four times  in  each half. Mark Williams rifled a hat-trick, Michael Meek  and  Chris Robertson each bagged a brace with Eric Thompson also on the mark.
 
Andy Appleby scrambled the ball home to give Easington Colliery the lead at home to  Hartlepool but Andy Ross quickly levelled with the best goal of the night, a tremendous shot from outside the penalty area which gave goalkeeper James Winter no chance.
 
In  the second half, Adrian Sanders' shot was deflected wide of keeper Mark Bell and  when he was again on target, there was no way back for Pools who are second from the basement.
 
Jarrow  overwhelmed Guisborough Town HC despite going behind after four  minutes as Philip Poulton steered the ball past goalkeeper Tony Orr.
 
Peter  Kane quickly restored parity but it was not until the second period  that the South Tynesiders got the better of the home team.
 
Their  dominance was rewarded as Kane took his personal tally to four and  goals also stemmed from Chris Lunn, Liam Clark and Tony Chilton to complete a 7-1 win.

Ryhope CW go marching on at the top of the table and they took their goals tally to an impressive 65 when they hit Houghton Town for five on Saturday.
 
Steve  Patton's  side  though, held their own until the second half and  at  the interval harboured hopes of causing an upset.
 
Once  Ryhope  broke the deadlock, however, it was one-way traffic and the  goals flowed.  Man-of-the-match  John Butler collected a good pass from Jimmy  Farrell and rounded goalkeeper Daniel Hajras on 47 minutes.
 
Five  minutes  later,  Butler set up Richard Jordan who fired  home  from  close range  and  on the hour Butler was again on target following good work by  David Newby.
 
Butler  slotted home from 18 yards to complete his hat-trick and take his  total for  the  season to  24  goals. Just before the end Dean Arkley  scored  with  a stunning solo effort.
 
Ryhope  remain  six  points ahead of Scarborough Town who were also  in  scoring mode at home to Jarrow.
 
Josh  Greening  and  Nathan Cooke had the Seasiders two goals ahead  inside  the opening  half  hour and during the second period Joe Danby, with a  brace,   and Cooke completed a 5-0 rout.
 
Third-top  Cleator  Moor  Celtic  needed just one goal from  Chris  Thornton  to see off a strong challenge from Kirkbymoorside.
 
Bottom-of-the-table  Willington  took  Easington  Colliery to  the  wire  before losing to an 89th-minute goal.
 
When James Huntley was brought down, his brother Rob fired the Colliers in front from  the  penalty  spot but the visitors hit back with an equaliser  from  Josh Binks.
 
With  time  running out Peter Crawford grabbed the winner,  chipping  goalkeeper Chris Sawyer from the edge of the penalty area.
 
Aaron  Robertson  gave Annfield Plain an early advantage but Boldon  CA  quickly equalised  through  Chris  Robinson.  Goals either side of half  time  by  Lewis Harrison earned Plain a 3-1 victory.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  were two goals in front courtesy of Stephen Oakley  and  Danny O'Brien  but went down to New Marske whose winning goal came deep into  stoppage time.
 
Shaun  Howes  reduced the visitors' deficit and midway through the  second  half Philip  Peggs  levelled. In the 93rd minute Richard Playforth's drive  rebounded from the underside of the crossbar into the net.
 
By  then,  Coxhoe  were  down to 10 men. Substitute  Chris  Mulkerrin,  who  was only introduced in the 86th minute, was sent off in additional time.
 
Guisborough Town HC improved their position with an 85th-minute goal from Junior Masambi in the bottom five clash at Windscale.
 
Silksworth  were  saved  from  making the journey to  Hartlepool  and  the  game between Wolviston and Teesside Athletic was also called off.

At  last, the Wearside League returned to action on Saturday but only one of the
scheduled nine fixtures went ahead.
 
Ryhope  CW managed to stage their game with Willington and were rewarded with  a
3-0  victory which enabled them to extend their lead at the top of the table  to
six points.
 
Although  in  the end Martin Swales' team coasted home, until they scored  their
second goal it was difficult to decide which team was in pole position and which
one was at the bottom.
 
There  were  chances at both ends before Ryhope went ahead on 25 minutes.  David
Newby  was brought down and Michael Turnbull converted the penalty, beating  the
impressive Chris Sawyer.
 
Ten  minutes  later and any hopes Willington harboured of causing an upset  just
about evaporated.
 
Richie  Jordan received the ball following a short corner, turned in the box and
his  rasping left-foot drive gave Sawyer no chance. It was his 17th goal of  the
season.
 
Following  this second success, Ryhope dominated with Dean Arkley impressive  in
mid-field  but  it was not until the 70th minute that they put the  game  beyond
Willington.
 
Jordan  held  off  his marker but was up-ended and Turnbull stepped  forward  to
convert his second spot kick.
 
The  other  seven  league  fixtures  were called off as  was  the  Second  Round
Sunderland Shipowners' Cup tie at Scarborough Town. Jarrow made the long journey
but just before kick-off the match referee declared the pitch unplayable.

Ryhope  CW  are  on course for a double after reaching the  semi-finals  of  the Wearside League Cup with a 3-0 victory at Kirkbymoorside on Saturday.
 
The  success  though  was not as easy as the scoreline suggests and it  was  not until  the final five minutes that the Wearsiders scored twice to make  sure  of their place in the last four.
 
The  Yorkshiremen  enjoyed a lot of possession in the opening half but  Ryhope's defence  was resolute and it was the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 47th minute.
 
John  Butler  pounced on a defensive mistake and slotted home but the home  side hit  back and could have equalised before Paul Hodgson (own goal) and Butler put the result beyond doubt.
 
Scarborough  Town reached Round Two with a 2-1 win over Teesside Athletic.  Joel Ramm scored twice within two minutes and although James Kesterton threw Athletic a life-line, Boro held on.
 
Willington  were  hit for five by Cleator Moor Celtic in the first round of  the Monkwearmouth  Charity Cup. All the goals were scored in the second half by  Lee Dunn, with a hat-trick, Craig Scott and Darren Johnson.
 
With  the four leading sides on cup duty, attention in the league focused on the bottom of the table.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic improved their chances of avoiding the wooden spoon with a  3-1 victory  over Houghton Town, whose only success was credited to Kevin Gordon  in stoppage time.
 
Michael Hillary, Shaun Rider and Stephen Oakley scored for the home side but the outcome  might have been different had Steve Patton's side not missed a  penalty when they trailed by two goals.
 
Silksworth  lost by the only goal at Windscale and the pair remain in the bottom six.
 
Goalkeeper  Billy  Hedgeley made several good saves but was beaten in  the  75th minute  by Peter O'Donnell with the Wearsiders claiming an infrigement had  been committed.
 
Second-bottom  Hartlepool drew with Guisborough Town HC who are only two  places above  them.  Anthony Bisswas netted for Town with Carl Winspear on  target  for Pools.
 
Boldon CA were twice behind but won at Ashbrooke Belford House with strikes from Shaun  Heads,  Jason Jones and Michael Meek, who scored the winner in  the  89th minute.  Paul Robertson bagged a brace of goals for Tommy Dobbing's team.
 
After conceding an early goal to Glen Walker, New Marske defeated Wolviston with efforts from Shaun Mackin and Sean Howes.

Substitute  goalkeeper  Michael Smith had an eventful game but couldn't  prevent
Silksworth  from  losing 3-1 to Annfield Plain in last night's  Wearside  League
clash.
 
A  well-worked  move  opened  up  the opportunity for Roy  Gordon  to  fire  the
visitors   in  front  after  just  five  minutes  but  Chris  Lindstedt's   team
deservedly levelled on 36 minutes with a good angled drive from Scott Walker.
 
During  the  interval, goalkeeper Anthony Mustard had to retire with an  injured
shoulder  and  Smith's  very first touch of the ball was to pick it out  of  the
net when Paul Henderson delivered a clinical finish in the 46th minute.
 
Smith  then  conceded a 68th-minute penalty for which he received a yellow  card
and was beaten by Colin Snailham from the spot.
 
Smith  did  atone with two outstanding saves and the Plain held on to move  into
seventh position.
 
Boldon  CA won a seven-goals thriller against bottom-of-the-table Willington  at
Hall Lane.
 
The  South  Tynesiders  made a dream start scoring through Chris  Robertson  and
Shaun Heads in the first four minutes.
 
Michael  Weston  reduced  the  deficit  but Robertson was  again  on  target  to
restore Boldon's two-goals cushion.
 
Once  again, the home side rallied and Matthew Leadbetter threw them a  lifeline
only  for  Heads  to head home. Weston then netted Willington's third  goal  but
Boldon survived the final minutes.
 
Houghton  Town  exited the Wearside League Cup when Jarrow were 3-1  winners  at
Leyburn Grove.
 
The  only  goal of the first half was credited to Chris Lunn and midway  through
the  second period Kevin Gordon equalised but two goals in the final 10  minutes

Ryhope  CW's dream of a Sunderland Shipowners' Cup and championship double ended at Teesside Athletic on Saturday following an exciting semi final tie.
 
The  Wearsiders  made  the worst possible start, conceding the  lead  as  Daniel Drazdauskas scored with a glancing header after just eight minutes.
 
It  took  Martin  Swales' team just five minutes to equalise  when  John  Butler steadied himself and fired home from close-range.
 
Ryhope were desperately unlucky to go behind for a second time, on 32 minutes. A corner  by Mendum was punched by goalkeeper Neil Atkinson and the ball rebounded from the shoulder of Neil Moan into the net.
 
Thereafter, the visitors peppered the home goal and the Teessiders spent most of the  second half in defence especially after having Shaun Taylor sent off in the 75th minute.
 
Jarrow  exited  the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup at Annfield Plain who reached  the semi finals.
 
Graeme Wilson was an early scorer and it took Jarrow 68 minutes to level through Lee Buglass. In extra time, Eddie Miller struck the winner.
 
There  was  some consolation for Ryhope CW in that second-top  Scarborough  Town surrendered a three-goals lead at Windscale whose marksmen were Peter O'Donnell, Lee Dixon and Dean Rogers.
 
Josh Green, Wayne Brooksby and Jamie Patterson were all on target in the opening 26  minutes  but the Seasiders failed to hold onto their lead and Ryhope  remain three  points clear, now having played the same number of games as their closest challengers.
 
Silksworth scored first courtesy of Anthony Rodgerson but third-top Cleator Moor Celtic  comfortably took the points thanks to a brace from Robert Fowler and one goal by Gary George.
 
Houghton  Town suffered a 4-0 defeat at Kirkbymoorside whose marksmen were  Paul Round (2), Damon Cox and Alex Strickland.
 
Boldon CA were 3-1 up at the halfway stage with efforts from Chris Robertson (2) and  Michael  Meek but Coxhoe Athletic gained a point as Kevin Mulgrew added  to his early goal and Trevor Tearney netted the equaliser.
 
Willington  remain  bottom  after losing at Wolviston whose scorers  were  Scott Meehan, Glen Walker and Mark Farrell. John Harrison (pen) replied.

Silksworth  failed to halt Teesside Athletic's strong challenge for promotion to
the  Skilltrainingltd  Northern League when they suffered a 4-1 defeat  in  last
night's Wearside League game.
 
Following  a goal-less first half, Greg Booth fired the visitors in front with a
good  finish  from  eight yards but almost immediately Scott  Walker  equalised,
heading home a well-taken free kick by Anthony Rogerson.
 
For  most of the game, it looked as if the Wearsiders would at least hold  their
illustrious  visitors but the Teessiders ended strongly, scoring three times  in
the final 12 minutes.
 
Andy Porritt scored a magnificent goal in the 78th minute when he cut inside and
curled the ball into the net.
 
Five  minutes  later  James Kesterton was on target and in the  last  minute  he
completed the scoring.
 
Teesside Athletic are now third-top and although 10 points behind leaders Ryhope
CW, have played two games fewer than their rivals.
 
Easington Colliery appeared to be on their way to victory when they led Annfield
Plain by two goals at the halfway stage.
 
In  the  23rd minute Chris Wallace produced a clinical finish from  outside  the
penalty area and seven minutes later Kevin Devine doubled the Colliers' lead.
 
Shaun  Sager threw the Plain a lifeline with his goal after 58 minutes and  with
five  minutes  left on the clock he equalised. Two minutes from time  substitute
Aaron Robinson clinched a dramatic winning goal for the visitors.
 
An  only goal in the 10th minute by Paul Millward earned lowly Guisborough  Town
HC  victory  over  Boldon  CA and Cleator  Moor  Celtic  consolidated  fifth-top
position with a 5-3 victory at neighbours Windscale.

Ryhope  CW remain four points ahead at the top of the table but they were  taken to the wire by Wolviston at Metcalfe Park.
 
The  Wearsiders  were on the back foot from the third minute when Stephen  Baker headed in a free kick delivered by Michael Arthur.
 
Martin  Swales' side gradually recovered from the early setback and equalised in the 20th minute with Chris Trewick's close-range strike.
 
A  minute after the interval David Newby fired in what proved to be the  winning goal  but late in the game Ryhope were forced to defend as Wolviston pressed for an equaliser.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House, who fielded a severely weakened side, were unable  to halt Scarborough Town's championship challenge.
 
Nathan  Cook rifled a hat-trick and Wayne Brooksby also struck. Two of the  four goals came after Ashbrooke had Lee Harrison sent off in the 70th minute.
 
Silksworth  were  in  with  a chance of upsetting the  form  book  at  third-top Teesside Athletic who were flattered by the 3-0 scoreline.
 
Luck  was  with  James Kesterton when the ball hit him and rolled into  the  net after the goalkeeper had parried his initial shot.
 
Chris Lindstedt's team more than held their own and it was not until late in the game  that  Billy  Millington  and  Kesterton wrapped  up  the  points  for  the Teessiders.
 
Houghton  Town  were  twice  in front before losing a  seven-goals  thriller  at Cleator Moor Celtic who have quietly moved into fourth position.
 
Brad  Freeman  bagged a brace of goals with Simon Anderson also on the mark  for the  visitors. Barry Irving (2), Craig Padley and Chris Thornton netted for  the Cumbrians.
 
Despite  leading with goals from Kris Robertson and Michael Meek, Boldon CA went down  to  New  Marske whose second-half marksmen were  Andrew  Dawson,  Kristian Kamara and Shaun Mackin.
 
Fortunes ebbed and flowed when Jarrow and Easington Colliery shared six goals at Perth  Green.  Peter Kane, Jonathan Matthews and Richard Stubbs scored  for  the hosts with Robert Huntley (2) and Chris Tarn replying.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  and  Hartlepool also ended 3-3 with Michael  Owens  and  Chris Garbutt  (2)  on  target for the home team. Andrew Ross (2)  and  Chris  Birbeck replied for Pools who moved off the bottom of the table.

Ryhope CW maintained a four point lead at the top of the table when they blitzed Kirkbymoorside with four goals, but rivals Scarborough Town did even better on a day when goals were in abundance.
 
Glen Moan and John Butler had the Wearsiders ahead by the 25th minute but it was another  hour  before  John  Bewick  put  the  game  beyond  the  reach  of  the Yorkshirmen.
 
In  stoppage  time, goalkeeper Darren Collier was beaten for a fourth  time,  as Michael Turnbull completed a comprehensive victory.
 
Scarborough  Town  romped to an 8-1 win over Willington and are now the  leading scorers with 59 goals from 15 games.
 
Joe  Danby  (2), Mattie Brown (2), Joel Ramm, Wayne Brooksby, Georgie  Rose  and Nathan   Cook  (pen)  were  the  marskmen  with  Andrew  Richardson  claiming  a consolation for second-bottom Willington.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford House stay third top following an exciting six-goals thriller with  Annfield  Plain who led three times through Shaun Sagar, Eddie Miller  and Graeme Wilson.
 
Michael  Charlton and Lee Harrison (pen) were on target for Ashbrooke who didn't claim  their  last equaliser until the final minute when Paul  Robertson  headed home.
 
Houghton Town twice recovered from a two-goals deficit and won 4-3 at Boldon CA.
 
David  Hopper and Michael Meek gave the hosts a dream start before Mattie  Raine threw Houghton a lifeline on the hour.
 
Almost  immediately Chris Robertson restored Boldon's two-goals cushion but in a frenetic  finale Houghton took the points with strikes by Wayne Harrison,  Gavin Dorwood and Brad Freeman.
 
An  Andrew  Place penalty awarded when Alex Anderson was sent off after just  13 minutes, put Silksworth on the road to victory at New Marske.
 
Anthony  Rogerson doubled the lead and although Phil Peggs replied for the  home side with 10 minutes remaining, Chris Lindstedt's team resisted late pressure.
 
Hartlepool  remain  at the basement following defeat at Jarrow where Chris  Lunn scored  all  three  goals and Coxhoe Athletic suffered a similar  fate  visiting Guisborough  Town HC whose marksmen were Ross Hodgson, Paul Milward and  Anthony Bizwaz.
 
Despite  enjoying the advantage of an own goal from Ben Bateson, Wolviston ended well beaten by Cleator Moor Celtic for whom Robert Fowler, Craig Scott and Leigh Dunn scored in the second period.

Ryhope  CW  twice came from behind to win a thrilling Monkwearmouth Charity  Cup Second Round tie at Scarborough Town.
 
A close contest was anticipated between the two leading teams and the prediction was  spot on. Only an injury-time penalty separated the sides as  the Wearsiders clinched a 4-3 victory.
 
Martin  Swales'  team was on the back foot during the opening half. An own  goal gave Boro a dream start and before the interval Joel Ramm doubled the lead.
 
Ryhope  mounted  a spirited second half fighback and after John  Butler  reduced the deficit, David Newby equalised.
 
The  Seasiders  regained  the  initiative with a penalty from  Nathan  Cook  and after  Butler  restored  parity,  Ryhope were awarded  a  stoppage-time  penalty which Glen Moan converted.
 
Just  one goal proved sufficient for Wolviston who defeated Guisborough Town  HC in the other tie with Alan Foley firing home a 26th-minute penalty.
 
Jarrow  came  from behind to defeat Hartlepool 2-1 in the Preliminary  Round  of the Wearside League Cup.
 
Goalkeeper  Tony Ord made two oustanding saves from debutant Joe Forster  before being beaten by John Webster shortly before the interval.
 
Midway  through  the  second period Liam Clark levelled and  with  five  minutes remaining he struck the winner.
 
Boldon  CA  exited  the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup at the  Quarter  Final  stage when  New  Marske won 3-1 courtesy of goals from Stephen Barker,  Shane  Erskine and Shaun Howes. Chris Robertson was Boldon's only marksman with a penalty.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford House moved into third position behind leaders Ryhope CW  and Scarborough Town.
 
It  was  not  until  the 80th minute that Martin Deacon  scored  the  only  goal against  Houghton  Town  whose  efforts were continually thwarted  by  the  home defence in which David Christie was outstanding.
 
Easington  Colliery  went behind to a Michael Owens goal but  quickly  recovered and ended 4-1 winners at Coxhoe Athletic.
 
Chris  Tarn  equalised  before  the  break and  in  the  second  period,  Adrian Sanders,  Rob  Huntley and Danny Flounders earned the Colliers the points  which lifted them into fifth place.
 
Silksworth  went  down to Willington who moved off the bottom of the table  with their second win of the season.
 
Liam  Bowes  struck the only goal on 21 minutes and although Silksworth  pressed during the second period, they failed to produce an equaliser.
 
Teesside  Athletic  dropped  down  to  fourth-top  when  they  were  held  to  a goal-less draw by Cleator Moor Celtic.

Ashbrooke  Belford  House  moved into fourth position in the Wearside  League  - their  highest  rating so far - when they defeated Jarrow by an only  goal  last night.
 
Martin  Deacon broke the deadlock in the 55th minute with a clinical strike  but Ashbrooke  had  Richard  Oxenham  to thank for  an  outstanding  performance  in defence.
 
Houghton Town were twice ahead but had to settle for a point with Kirkbymoorside at Leyburn Grove.
 
Brad  Freeman headed them in front before Paul Cox equalised with a strong drive on the edge of the penalty area.
 
Freeman restored the advantage to Houghton firing into the net from 25 yards and in the 80th minute Paul Round restored parity.
 
With  just  two minutes remaining Houghton's Billy Harrison failed to convert  a penalty.
 
Cleator  Moor Celtic scored four times in each half to demolish Guisborough Town HC  8-0 with goals by Craig Padley (3), Glynn Edwards (2), Darren Johnson,  Greg Stainton and Barry Irving.
 
Ryhope CW's fixture with Coxhoe Athletic was called off before the start because of a floodlight failure.
 
Willington gave Scarborough Town a fright when they met in the Preliminary Round of the Wearside League Cup at Hall Lane.
 
The  home  side, with only one win all season, shocked second-top  Borough  when debutant Adrian Weston cancelled out Luke Jenkinson's early goal.
 
With  extra  time looming, the Seasiders clinched victory with a brilliant  solo effort from Josh Greening whose delicate chip from 18 yards found the net.

Eight  goals, extra time and three sendings-off. You couldn't ask for more  when
Easington Colliery defeated Silksworth in the Wearside League Cup on Saturday.
 
Add the fact that the Wearsiders led with a brace of goals from Anthony Rogerson
until  the  71st  minute, then the margin of Easington's victory  is  even  more
remarkable.
 
It  looked  all over for the Colliers when Chris Lindstedt's team enjoyed a  two
goals  lead despite having Cameron Marshall red-carded after just 25 minutes but
when  Tom Orchard reduced the deficit with 19 minutes remaining, suddenly a game
was on.
 
Robert  Huntley  levelled in the 83rd minute and four minutes  later  Silksworth
went down to nine men as Jordan Craike received his marching orders.
 
The  home  side  made  the  numerical  advantage  count  and  went  into  a  4-2
extra-time lead with strikes by Peter Crawford and Huntley before amazingly Ross
Morton  became  the  third Silksworth player to be sent off with  eight  minutes
remaining.
 
From  then on, the result was a forgone conclusion and the visitors were hit for
six  as Gary Tyzack unfortunately put through his own goal and Huntley completed
a hat-trick.
 
The  other  first round tie wasn't nearly so eventful. Glen Walker was an  early
marksman  for Wolviston but Ryhope CW went through courtesy of Martin  Metcalfe,
Dan Smith and John Butler.
 
In  a reduced league programme, Ashbrooke Belford House ended Coxhoe  Athletic's
mini-revival.
 
Jake Laverick fired the home side in front but in the 23rd minute goalkeeper Tom
Orton  was  given  a  red card for a foul on Peter  Benson,  who  converted  the
penalty.
 
Even  so, Coxhoe regained the initiative through Peter Bulmer but in the  second
period Mark Green and Paul Robinson eased Ashbrooke to victory.
 
Houghton  Town twice led courtesy of Billy Harrison and Simon Williamson but had
to  settle for a point against Annfield Plain whose marksmen were Roy Gordon and
Colin Snailham.
 
Jarrow  crashed  to  a 5-1 defeat at New Marske despite  scoring  first  through
Richard  Stubbs.  Shaun Mackin rifled a hat-trick with Mark Dawson (2)  also  on
target.
 
Windscale   returned  to  action  following  a  two-week  lay-off  and  defeated
Hartlepool with efforts from Dean Rodgers and Paul O'Donnell.
 
Boldon  CA  exited the Durham Challenge Cup at the hands of Crook Town who  went
three goals up thanks to Gavin Barton (2) and Adam Nichols.
 
Kris  Robinson  and Michael Wright threw Boldon a lifeline but in stoppage  time
Crook wrapped up the tie with further goals from Darren Kokes and Tom Berj.

Ryhope  CW  won the match of the day when they inflicted a first defeat  of  the
season  on  Teesside Athletic to maintain a four-points lead at the top  of  the
table.
 
Martin Swales's side went behind after half an hour but quickly hit back and won
a three-goals thriller with Shaun Petch's second-half strike.
 
Shaun  Taylor  and James Kesterton combined to set up Greg Booth who fired  into
the  bottom left-hand corner of the net, giving Ryhope goalkeeper Neil  Atkinson
no chance.
 
The Wearsiders equalised within seven minutes. John Butler's shot was parried by
Stuart McDonald but only to Chris Trewick  who made no mistake from close range.
 
Midway  through  the  second  period David Newby broke down the  right  and  his
inch-perfect centre was headed in by Petch.
 
Silksworth  failed  to halt Scarborough Town's challenge when they were hit  for
seven at the seaside.
 
Luke  Jenkinson  celebrated his return with a hat-trick, Josh Greening bagged  a
brace  with  Neil Waterfield and Joe Danby adding to the woes of the  Wearsiders
who managed just two goals from Scott Walker and Andrew Place.
 
Scarborough  remain  second, four points behind Ryhope with a game in  hand  and
Teesside Athletic stay third.
 
Wolviston  have  quietly crept into fourth place and goals by Danny Shields  (2)
and  Scott  Mehan  eased  them to victory over Jarrow whose  only  response  was
credited to Christie Elliott.
 
Easington  Colliery just edged Boldon CA. Adrian Sanders and Robert Huntley  had
them  two  goals  up until the 80th minute but when Kris  Robinson  reduced  the
deficit, it was all to play for in the final stages.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House found the net on three occasions thanks to Ryan  Steel
(2) and Kenny Taylor but still suffered defeat against New Marske.
 
Shaun  Erskine  rifled  a hat-trick, Shaun Mackin struck twice and  his  brother
Michael converted a penalty as the Seasiders enjoyed a six-goals romp.
 
In  contrast, an only goal by Aaron Robertson was sufficient for Annfield  Plain
at  Guisborough Town HC and Houghton Town returned to form defeating  Hartlepool
at Leyburn Grove.
 
Carl  McDermott was a fifth-minute marksman for Pools before Billy Harrison  (2)
and Kevin Gordon replied.
 
A month ago Coxhoe Athletic looked down and out at the bottom of the table. They
failed to claim a point from their first nine matches but have taken 10 from the
last four.
 
Their  latest  success was at Cleator Moor Celtic. Chris Corbett (2)  and  Peter
Bulmer  had  them three goals up inside 21 minutes but in a pulsating  encounter
Celtic  levelled, scoring three times in just 10 minutes through Chris  Thornton
(2) and Craig Scott.
 
Six  goals were scored in the first 35 minutes but only one more followed on the
hour as Kevin Mulgrew won the game for Coxhoe.
 
Willington remain bottom after losing to Kirkbymoorside whose scorers were Daryl
Rivis  and Paul Round (pen). An own goal by Rhys Crowe raised Willington's hopes
but they suffered their 12th defeat in 14 games.

Ryhope CW moved to the top of the table when they came from behind to defeat New

There  was  little  to choose between the sides in the opening period  but  just

produced a clever chip which gave the goalkeeper no chance.
 
Four  minutes  later Richard Jordan fired into the net and just before  the  end
Butler beat the offside trap to make sure of three crucial points.
 
Previous  leaders Scarborough Town surprisingly went down 5-3 to  Kirkbymoorside
whose  marksmen  were Alex Strickland (2), Paul Round (2) and Johnny Brown.  Joe
Ramm, Robbie Hawkes (pen) and Mark Barber replied for Boro.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford House are up to fifth after they enjoyed a four-goals romp at
Houghton  Town who trailed by three goals before Gavin Dorward threw the hosts a
lifeline.
 
David Baxter though ended their hopes with his second goal. Peter Benson and Lee
Harrison were Ashbrooke's other marksmen.
 
Silksworth  trailed  by  two goals until the 67th minute but  salvaged  a  point
against second-from-bottom Willington.
 
Adam  Blenkinsopp and John Richardson had the visitors comfortably in front  but
after Scott Walker headed in, Andrew Bowes levelled with a tremendous header.
 
Basement  side Coxhoe Athletic celebrated their first win in 11 attempts and did
so  in  style scoring five times through Peter Bulmer (2), Kevin Mulgrew,  Chris
Garbutt  and  Adam McDonald at home to Guisborough Town HC. Junior  Nasandi  and
John Cairns (pen) replied.
 
Shaun Heads and Chris Robertson earned Boldon CA a narrow victory against third-
from-bottom Hartlepool whose only goal was credited to Ian Davies.
 
After  conceding  goals  to  Eddie Miller and Barry Lindoe  inside  25  minutes,
Easington  Colliery drew level courtesy of Martin Langley and Robert Huntley but
Gary Beadle snatched a late winner for Annfield Plain at Derwent Park..
 
Jarrow  and Wolviston both made their exits from the Durham Challenge Cup at the
hands of Skilltrainingltd Northern League First Division opponents.
 
Chris  Lunn,  Peter Kane and Christie Elliott netted for Jarrow at home to  West
Auckland  Town  who  responded  through Stuart Irvine (pen),  Neil  Tarrant  and
Stephen Cochrane.
 
The  scores ended level at 3-3 following extra time and West went through 4-2 on
penalties.
 
Phil  Brumwell  and  Sean Reay guided Shildon into Round Two with  victory  over
Wolviston at Metcalfe Park.

Ryhope CW  roared to an emphatic victory over neighbours Silksworth and are  now only two points adrift of table-topping Scarborough Town.
 
Chris  Linstedt  returned  to  the club he left in the summer  but  it  was  his replacement Martin Swales who celebrated.
 
Linstedt did an outstanding job at Ryhope and Swales is continuing the good work of the former manager.
 
John  Butler fired the home side in front from the penalty spot but Jordan Crake quickly levelled with a header from a corner.
 
Just  before the interval Richard Jordan restored the advantage to the home side and  when they had the better of the second period, Ryhope went nap courtesy  of Butler, Shaun Petch and Paul Hartley.
 
Following a goal-less first half, Ashbrooke Belford House and Easington Colliery shared the points in a six-goals thriller.
 
Martin Deacon gave Ashbrooke the lead but the Colliers quickly hit back and were 3-1 up through Chris Tarn, Robert Huntley and Lee Davison until the 85th minute.
 
Battling  Belford  were  given a lifeline by Alan Young and in the  last  minute Deacon headed in the equaliser.
 
Boldon  CA trailed from the eighth minute at Cleator Moor Celtic following Craig Padley's clinical finish from 20 yards. Chris Robinson scrambled in an equaliser but Celtic emerged winners with Barry Irving's clever lob over goalkeeper Andrew Hunter.
 
Jarrow  moved into fourth position with a comfortable victory over second-bottom Willington.
 
Chris  Lunn beat three defenders before firing past goalkeeper Chris Sawyer  and just before the interval Jonathan Matthews also produced a good finish.
 
Despite  the heroics of Willington keeper Sawyer, Jarrow made it three after  an hour  when Lee Buglass delivered a stunning free kick into the top corner of the net.
 
Hartlepool  remain  third  from  the basement after losing by the  odd  goal  to Wolviston  whose marksmen were Anthony Brown and Scott Mehan. Chris Birbeck  had equalised for Pools.
 
Coxhoe Athletic claimed their first point of the season in a goal-less draw with Annfield  Plain.  Coxhoe have still managed only four goals in 10 games but  are now within striking distance of Willington.
 
Four  sides  were involved in the North Riding Senior Cup.  Leaders  Scarborough Town  hammered  New Marske 7-2, Kirkbymoorside defeated Redcar Rugby Club by  an only  goal while Guisborough Town made their exit at the hands of Old Malton  St Mary's.

Peter  Benson was an early scorer against his former club but Ryhope CW hit back to defeat Ashbrooke Belford House in the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup.
 
The  striker, who regularly found the target for Ryhope, pounced on a  defensive mistake after just 15 minutes but within five minutes David Newby equalised with a solo effort, burying his shot low into the net.
 
Richard Jordan then scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 25th minute when he poked the ball home in a goalmouth scramble.
 
Coxhoe Athletic belied their lowly position and gave holders Teesside Athletic a good game before going out by a 3-1 margin.
 
Glen  Smith  and James Kesterton had the hosts two goals up but it was  no  more than Coxhoe deserved as Tony Lee reduced the deficit with a looping header.
 
Coxhoe went down to 10 men when Barrie Moses was injured. By then, they had used their substitutes. Late in the game Lewis Wood sealed Teesside's victory.
 
An  only goal by Michael Mackin was sufficient for New Marske against Hartlepool while leaders Scarborough Town ran riot at Cleator Moor Celtic who played for 81 minutes with 10 men following the dismissal of Michael Lewis.
 
Robbie  Hawkes  (3),  Luke  Jenkinson (2), Dean Craig,  Nathan  Cook  and  Wayne Brooksby  led  the  Seasiders to an 8-2 win. Glynn Edwards claimed a  couple  of consolation goals for the Cumbrians.
 
Fourth-top  Easington  Colliery made up ground on the three leading  clubs,  who were  on cup duty. Robert Huntley and Barry Turton were the scorers at Wolviston for whom Danny Shields had restored parity.
 
Chris  Linstedt celebrated his first game in charge leading Silksworth to a  4-1 victory over Houghton Town whose only marksman was Billy Harrison.
 
Gary  Tyzack gave the home side a perfect start scoring in the first minute  and in the second period further goals flowed from Andrew Place, Michael Renshaw and Anthony Rogerson.
 
Mark  Johnson, Shaun Heads and Chris Robertson netted for Boldon CA who won  the South  Tyneside derby at Jarrow for whom Chris Lunn and Jonathan Matthews  found the target.
 
Aaron  Robertson  and  Dominic  Elliott enabled Annfield Plain to  see  off  the challenge  from  Guisborough  Town  HC and Paul Round scored the  only  goal  as Kirkbymoorside defeated Windscale.

Ryhope  CW  are just two points behind Wearside League leaders Scarborough  Town
following last night's emphatic victory over Boldon CA.
 
John  Butler  was an early marksman for the home side but within a  minute  Mark
Johnson equalised.
 
Martin  Swales'  team  then stepped up a gear and the goals  flowed  from  David
Newby, Butler and Anthony Ross before the interval.
 
Midway  through  the  second  period Butler completed  a  superb  hat-trick  and
although  Chris Robertson reduced the arrears three minutes later, there was  no
way back for Boldon who had scored 11 goals in their previous two games.
 
Houghton  Town lost 3-1 to New Marske at Leyburn Grove. Mark Dawson headed in  a
corner  and Lee Harrison scrambled the ball home to give fifth-placed New Marske
a half-time advantage.
 
Billy  Harrison threw Steve Patton's side a lifeline when he converted a penalty
but late in the game Shaun Howes made sure of the points for the Seasiders.
 
Easington  Colliery  shared the points with Kirkbymoorside at Welfare Park.  The
visitors  were  gifted  an eighth-minute lead as  Martin  Langley  unfortunately
sliced an attempted clearance into his own net.
 
The Colliers were quickly back in the game as an 18-yard drive from Barry Turton
flashed into the net but Alex Strickland regained the advantage for the visitors
on 41 minutes.
 
Just  before  the  break  Turton  dribbled his way into  the  penalty  area  and
equalised  with a splendid individual effort. There were chances for both  teams
in the second period but the game  ended in a draw, which was a fair reflection.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House  fielded a severely-weakened line-up at  Cleator  Moor
Celtic  and  crashed  to  a 5-1 defeat despite having  the  encouragement  of  a
10th-minute goal from Michael Charlton.
 
Lee Dunn hit a hat-trick with Barry Irvine and Craig Padley also penetrating the
Wearsiders' defence.
 
Goals  were  scarce in the other two games. Roy Gordon's 87th-minute effort  was
sufficient  for Annfield Plain at Willington and Wolviston also won by a slender
margin at Windscale where Dan Shields was the only marksman.
 
Jarrow  reached  the second round of the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup with  a  4-2
victory at Guisborough Town HC.
 
The  South  Tynesiders made a flying start with goals from Peter Kane and  Chris
Lunn  but before the interval the scores were level as Richie Walker and  Junior
Massandi hit the target.
 
Jarrow  enjoyed  the better of the second period and after debutant Chris  Quinn
celebrated  with  a goal, Peter Kirkham completed the scoring from  the  penalty

Easington  Colliery  were  involved in a six-goals thriller before  exiting  the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup when Guisborough Town won 5-3 on penalties.
 
Stephen  Kilpatrick was an early marksman for the visitors and Chris Tarn missed a penalty for the Colliers before Philip Poulton sent Guisborough in with a two- goals cushion.
 
Rob  Huntley  then restored parity, converting two penalties which were  awarded within  a  minute and amazingly he completed his hat-trick from the spot in  the first period of extra time.
 
With  just  four  minutes  remaining,  Poulton scored his  second  goal  of  the afternoon to set up a penalty shoot-out.
 
Colin  Thornton emulated Rob Huntley's performance when he rifled all four goals in  Cleator Moor Celtic's 4-2 defeat of Kirkbymoorside for whom Alex  Strickland and Daryl Rivis replied.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford House went out of the Wearside League Cup to New Marske.  Sam Crookes  beat goalkeeper Greg Dixon after half an hour and 20 minutes from  time Sam Dawson just about ended the Wearsiders' hopes.
 
Boldon  CA were the biggest scorers of the day when they hit Coxhoe Athletic for six.
 
Michael Owens cancelled out the home side's early strike but this was their only success  and it was at the other end that the goals flowed from Stephen Telford, with a hattrick, Shaun Carroll (2) and David Hopper.
 
After  establishing  a  two-goals  advantage inside half an  hour,  courtesy  of Stephen Liddle and Liam Bell, Annfield Plain had to withstand late pressure from Windscale after Peter O'Donnell threw the Cumbrians a lifeline.
 
In  a  reduced League programme, Houghton Town returned to winning form  with  a narrow victory over Willington at Leyburn Grove.
 
Mark  Robinson  fired  into the net following an excellent  build-up  but  goals immediately  before and after the interval from Harry Drummond and Martin  Scott put the visitors in front.
 
Mark Catheside was introduced as a substitute and with his first touch equalised and eight minutes from time Robinson claimed the winner.
 
Scarborough Town extended their lead at the top to four points when an only goal by  Robert  Hawkes  proved sufficient  at  Wolviston  and  Teesside  Athletic leap-frogged  Ryhope CW, who had a free day, with victory over Hartlepool thanks to Andrew Bell and James Kesterton.

On   a   day   when  four  sides  scored  five  times,  Ryhope   CW   needed   a second goal in stoppage-time to earn them a crucial victory at Houghton Town.
 
Following  a  goal-less  first half, Houghton were awarded  a  penalty  and  the visitors'  Neil  Moan  was sent off. Billy Harrison converted the  kick,  giving goalkeeper Michael Burlison no chance.
 
The  visitors  hit back with a Glen Marney equaliser but the game was  into  the 91st minute as Neville Newby scrambled the ball home.
 
Three  sides  won  by  a  5-0 scoreline. Ashbrooke Belford  House  were  on  the receiving end at Teesside Athletic where they finished with only eight players.
 
James  Kesterton  (2)  and Daniel Drazdauskas had the home side  comfortably  in front before Kenny Taylor was sent off in the 45th minute.
 
Prolific  scorer Kesterton took his tally to four and goalkeeper Greg Dixon  and Chris Charlton were both then  injured.
 
Ashbrooke  had  already used their substitutes and therefore  finished  severely depleted.  It  was not all joy for Teesside either who had Andy Taylor taken  to hospital with a suspected broken arm.
 
Silksworth,  who had conceded 12 goals in their first six games, leaked five  to Kirkbymoorside  for whom Johnny Brown, Daryl Rivis, Alex Strickland, Paul  Round and Sarjo Cham all beat the overworked Daniel White.
 
Scarborough  Town remain top of the table and they also plundered five goals  at home  to  Hartlepool. Robbie Hawkes was another player to score four times  with Nathan Cook also on the mark.
 
The  Seasiders  had  Luke Jenkinson sent off just before the interval  and  four minutes into the second period Pools goalkeeper Mark Bell was also red-carded.
 
Easington  Colliery  and Windscale were involved in a dour goal-less  draw.  The best  chance  fell  to  Chris Tarn but he fired a penalty  over  the  Cumbrians' crossbar.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  are still pointless but gave an improved  performance  against Wolviston  who  won  with second-half efforts from David Patterson  and  Michael Murphy.
 
Junior  Masandi  was  an  early scorer for Guisborough Town HC but  it  was  not until  the  last  three minutes that Willington conceded further goals  to  John Cairns (pen) and Michael Pugh.
 
Boldon  CA caused an upset in the Durham Challenge Cup when they recovered  from a two-goals deficit to defeat Hebburn Town 5-2.
 
Willy  Crew  and  David McCann struck in the opening 16 minutes  before  Michael Meek,  with  a brace, Chris Robinson (pen), Andrew Hall and Mark  Johnson  swept Boldon into the next round and an away tie with Brandon United.
 
An  only  goal  by  Christie Elliott proved sufficient for  Jarrow  at  home  to Annfield  Plain.  The South Tynesiders line up at home to West Auckland Town  in the First Round.

Ryhope  CW  were  twice  ahead but had to settle for a  point  when  New  Marske
equalised late in the game with a hotly-disputed penalty.
 
John  Butler  fired the Wearsiders into a 10th-minute lead with a clinical  shot
from the edge of the penalty area but Michael Mackin headed the equaliser.
 
Early  in  the second period, Kristian Kamarra put the visitors in front with  a
scrambled effort and Anthony Ross's drive restored parity.
 
With  just  15 minutes remaining Glen Moan headed in a corner but just  when  it
appeared  that Martin Swales' side would secure another win, Nick Ward fired  in
his spot kick.
 
Ryhope  remain  second,  two  points behind leaders  Scarborough  Town  who  hit
Boldon CA with a four-goals blitz.
 
Robbie  Hawkes  bagged a brace with Mark Barber and Luke Jenninson also  on  the
mark. Boldon's Dean McKeown was taken to hospital after crashing into a post.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House  are  in the top six  and  they  comfortably  defeated
Hartlepool.  David  Baxter fired them in front on two minutes and in the  second
period  Martin Deacon and Brian Smailes also found the net. Mark Ecclestone  was
outstanding for Ashbrooke.
 
Mark  Robinson  restored  parity for Houghton Town after Summersgill  had  fired
Wolviston  ahead  but  three minutes from time Steve Patton's  side  conceded  a
winning goal to Walker.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  crashed  5-0  at Windscale for whom  Dean  Rogers  produced  a
stunning performance scoring four times. John Donnelly was the other marksman.
 
Annfield  Plain were also in Cumbria and Cleator Moor Celtic claimed the  points
thanks to Craig Hadley and Terry George.
 
Jarrow  earned  a  point at Kirkbymoorside with a goal-less draw  and  third-top
Teesside  Athletic maintained their promotion aspirations defeating  Guisborough
Town  HC thanks to Billy Millington (2) and James Kesterton. Russell Spence  was
the visitors' only scorer.
 
The   two   sides  competing  in  the  FA  Carlsberg  Vase  both  went  out   to
Skilltrainingltd Northern League teams.
 
Easington  Colliery  were only a minute away from taking Shildon to  extra  time
and  it  took a spectacular free kick from Andrew Johnson to end their hopes  of
glory.
 
Willington  gave neighbours West Auckland Town a good game before losing by  the
odd  goal.  Carl  Thompson struck for the Hall Lane team with Martin  Young  and
Ian Maddison earning West their passage into the Third Qualifying Round.

Ashbrooke  Belford House applied to have their Sunderland Shipowners' Cup tie at Wolviston postponed because nine players were attending a wedding.
 
And  when Nathan Summersgill scored twice in the first four minutes, it appeared the Wearsiders' worst fears would materialise.
 
But  their make-shift line-up staged a magnificent rally and a brace of goals by Peter Benson and one from Michael Charlton earned them a surprise victory.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  produced  the  shock result of the  season  as  they  defeated Kirkbymoorside.
 
The South Durham side went into the tie on the back of seven consecutive defeats and  when  Alex Strickland headed in on the 20th minute, another reverse  seemed likely.
 
Dan  O'Brien levelled from the spot with the last kick of the first half and  in stoppage time he converted another penalty for the winner.
 
Ryhope  CW  had no trouble seeing off the challenge from Houghton Town.  Richard Jordan  bagged  a brace with Gareth Hill and John Butler also on  target.  David Sewell was the home side's only marksman.
 
Hartlepool  and Silksworth failed to produce a goal following two hours play and Pools booked their place in the next round, winning 5-3 on penalties.
 
Easington Colliery were well beaten at Boldon CA whose hero was Stephen Williams with  a  hat-trick. Michael Meek added to the woes of the visitors  who  managed just one goal from Jack Pounder.
 
Scarborough  Town defeated Annfield Plain 4-3 on penalties. William Jarvis-Smith and  Dominic Elliott had the visitors two goals up at the interval but Joe  Ramm and Luke Jenkinson took the tie into extra time.
 
Willington  also went out on penalties to Guisborough Town HC. Adam  Blenkinsopp headed  the  hosts in front and Chris Rigby restored parity for Guisborough  who then won the shoot-out 4-3.
 
Dean  Rogers  was  an early scorer for Windscale but Teesside  Athletic  secured their place in the next round with a couple of strikes from regular scorer James Kesterton.
 
Only  one game was played in the league and Jarrow moved up into third position, three points behind leaders Scarborough Town and Ryhope CW.

Following a seven-goals drubbing in their previous game, Silksworth bounced back to form, comfortably defeating neighbours Ashbrooke Belford House.
 
Ashbrooke  went  into  the game having won five and lost just one of  their  six games but they were no match for Steven Smith's side.
 
David  McKinley  opened  the  scoring after half an hour with a  good  chip  and before   the   interval   outstanding   work   by   Scott   Walker   split   the Belford House defence for Andrew Place to head home.
 
Early  in  the  second period Place was again on target and it could  have  been worse for Belford as Cameron Marshall missed a penalty.
 
Ryhope  CW  defeated  Wolviston  but  still conceded  the  leadership  on  goals difference to Scarborough Town.
 
It  was  a close call for Martin Swales' team and there were only  five  minutes remaining  as  Richard  Jordan  scored  the only  goal  following  a  good  move involving John Butler and Gareth Hill.
 
Scarborough  Town,  who  conceded pole position last week, are back  on  top  by virtue of their 4-1 victory over Coxhoe Athletic.
 
With  just  seven  minutes  remaining, however, a shock was on  the  cards.  The South  Durham  side had led for a long period with Adam McDonald's early  effort but eventually Luke Jenkinson equalised.
 
In  a  frenetic finale a brace of goals from Robbie Hawkes and one by Joe  Danby enabled  the  Seasiders  to  snatch pole position from Ryhope.  The  sides  have identical  playing  records but Scarborough have scored one goal more  than  the Wearsiders.
 
Easington  Colliery  comfortably  saw off the challenge  from  Guisborough  Town whose only goal by Nicky Pugh didn't arrive until three minutes from time.
 
Robert  Huntley,  Liam Beeston and Barry Turton had the Colliers three goals  up by the interval and they were never troubled.
 
Houghton  Town withstood late pressure from Annfield Plain to claim their  third win in six attempts.
 
Adam  Forrest  put  them in front from the penalty spot and on  the  hour  Tommy Nobbit fired in a free kick from just outside the 18-yard line.
 
With  10  minutes left Roy Gordon reduced Plain's deficit and Houghton  breathed a sigh of relief as David Turner rattled the woodwork.
 
Jarrow's   season  so  far  has  been  marked  by  inconsistency.  Following   a seven-goals  romp  last mid-week they suffered a three-goals defeat at  Teesside Athletic whose marksmen were James Kesterton and a brace from Billy Millington.
 
Boldon  CA twice led through Michael Meek and Chris Robertson but were denied  a point at Windscale for whom Dean Rogers scored twice.
 
Willington trailed by three goals to Scott Davies, Sam Cook and Rob Jones at New Marske but then rallied and set up an interesting finish.
 
John  Harrison  headed  them back into the game and Adam  Blenkinsopp  scrambled the ball home but New Marske held out.
 
Hartlepool  went  down  4-2 in an incident-packed game at  Kirkbymoorside  where they ended with nine men.
 
Alex  Strickland rifled a hat-trick with Carl Richardson also on target for  the home team. Craig Woodward and Simon Hanlon responded for Pools.

RYHOPE  CW  surged  to  the top of the Wearside League when  they  went  nap  at Willington last night.
 
Martin  Swales'  side  made  a dream start, scoring twice  in  the  opening  two minutes with a Richard Jordan header and a drive from Anthony Ross.
 
Willington,  second bottom with just one win in six attempts, hit back as  Henry Drummond  delivered  a clinical finish from outside the penalty area  but  there was no stopping Ryhope.
 
Ross  drove  home  for  his second goal of the night  and  before  the  interval Ryhope just about secured victory as Philip Hall also found the target.
 
Early  in the second period, Jordan completed the scoring and his goal was  just sufficient to lift Ryhope above Scarborough Town on goals difference.
 
Easington  Colliery  produced a splendid performance to end  Scarborough  Town's 100 per cent record at Welfare Park.
 
Barry  Turton only passed a fitness test shortly before kick-off but he came  up trumps for the Colliers when he headed the only goal on 32 minutes.
 
Both   teams  had  scoring  opportunities  in  a  highly-entertaining  game  but Easington held out for their third win.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House  are third following a 3-1 victory over  Cleator  Moor Celtic.
 
A  tremendous  35-yard  strike  by  Lee Harrison  gave  the  hosts  an  interval advantage  but the Cumbrians restored parity in the 70th minute courtesy of  Ben Davison.
 
Davison  then  conceded an own goal and two minutes from time David Baxter  made sure of the points for the Wearsiders.
 
Silksworth,  who  had leaked just five goals in four games, suffered a 7-1  rout at  Jarrow  who  consolidated  fourth place. Lee Buglass  and  Chris  Lunn  both rifled   hat-tricks  and  Silksworth's  woes  were  compounded  as  Peter   Kane converted a penalty.
 
Andrew  Place  claimed  a consolation goal for Steven Smith's side  which,  with seven points out of 12, had made their best start in three years.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  are  the only side without a point and they went down  5-1  at home  to  Kirkbymoorside whose marksmen were Paul Wilson (og), Daryl  Rivis  (2) and  Alex  Strickland (2). Michael Owens had equalised for Coxhoe with only  his team's third goal in six games.
 
Only  85  minutes  play  was  possible at Hartlepool  but  Annfield  Plain  were confirmed as 2-1 winners.
 
Roy  Gordon  hit  a  long-range effort which skidded off  the  wet  surface  and entered  the net via a post in the second period Paul Henderson doubled  Plain's lead with a breakaway effort.
 
Shaun  Ross fired into the roof of the net to raise Pools hopes but in the  85th minute the referee consulted the teams and curtailed the match.

Houghton  Town  were very much the under-dogs when they met Scarborough Town  in the  Monkwearmouth Charity Cup. The Seasiders have  taken the Wearside League by storm,  scoring  25 goals and conceding just four but Steve Patton's  side  took them to the wire.
 
Two  goals  in the opening 26 minutes by Matthew Brown and Joel  Ramm,  however, meant  that  there was no giant-killing act but Houghton will take heart from  a stirring performance.
 
Silksworth  have  made  their best start in three years and  progressed  to  the next stage with victory over Hartlepool.
 
Shaun  Smith  was an early marksman but when Sean Ross converted  a  44th-minute penalty  for  Pools, the outcome was wide open. Gary Tyzack came up trumps  when he pounced on a rebound five minutes from time.
 
Ryhope  CW  defeated  New Marske following a five-goals thriller.  Robert  Jones struck  from  the  penalty  spot in the 20th minute  and  David  Newby  restored parity, converting a Michael Patterson cross before the interval.
 
Newby  cut  in  from the right and fired into the far corner of the net  on  the hour  and  soon  afterwards completed a superb hat-trick with  another  clinical finish.
 
New  Marske  though  rallied and when Shaun Mackin netted,  an  exciting  finale ensued but Ryhope held out.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House went down at Guisborough Town HC whose  marksmen  were Jonathan  Sharkey and Russ Spence. Lee Harrison kept the Wearsiders in the  game but the hosts edged home.
 
David  Turner,  Roy  Gordon and Dean Lee led Annfield Plain to  victory  against Boldon CA whose only reply was a Chris Robertson penalty.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic,  the  only  side  without a point,  crashed  4-1  at  Teesside Athletic  despite Peter Bouler, with a cracking 30-yard drive, scoring the  goal of  the  game.  Stuart Poulter, Lewis Woods and James Kesterton, with  a  brace, struck for Teesside.
 
Alex  Strickland (2) and Ryan Rivis were the marksmen as Kirkbymoorside saw  off Cleator Moor Celtic. Keiron McCool claimed a consolation for the Cumbrians.
 
Glen  Walker  rifled  a  hat-trick  and  Aaron  Foley  converted  a  penalty  in Wolviston's  victory  over  Windscale  who responded  through  Dean  Rogers  and Howard Kirkbride.
 
Jarrow  won  the  only league game, defeating Willington at  Hall  Lane.  Martin Scott  fired  the  home  side in front and after  Mark  Pearson  levelled,  Liam Poppleton headed in the winner.

Ryhope  CW  are  keeping  the  pressure on Scarborough  Town  and  last  night's six-goals  romp  at Coxhoe Athletic keeps them within striking distance  of  the leaders.
 
John  Butler  was a first-half marksman but Coxhoe didn't concede  another  goal until the last 15 minutes during which their young side leaked another five.
 
Martin  Metcalfe rifled a hat-trick, John Butler doubled his tally with  Richard Jordan adding to the problems of pointless Coxhoe who have now conceded 17 goals in five outings.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford House lost their 100 per cent record at Annfield Plain.  Dean Lee  gave the hosts a first-half advantage and when Roy Gordon also struck,  the Wearsiders were on the back foot and failed to get back into the game.
 
Silksworth  have  two  wins  and  a  draw from four  matches  which  is  a  vast improvement on the form they showed in the early stages of last season.
 
Michael  Renshaw  headed in a corner and when Andrew Bowes' shot  was  deflected into the net on 85 minutes a comfortable victory was on the cards.
 
But  two  minutes  later  Dean Rogers threw visitors Windscale  a  lifeline  and Silksworth were hard-pressed to secure a 2-1 victory.
 
After  scoring eight times at the weekend, Houghton Town failed to find the  net once  in  last  night's  game at Leyburn Grove  where  Teesside  Athletic,  with ambitions of joining the Skilltrainingltd Northern League, ended 2-0 winners.
 
Stephen  Thompson  converted a set piece in the opening 45 minutes  and  despite some  good  work by the home side it was the visitors who struck  again  through Stuart Poulter 20 minutes from time.
 
Easington  Colliery  almost  snatched  a point at New Marske  who  edged  a  3-2 result.
 
Kristian  Kamara  produced  an excellent cross for Rob Jones to slide  the  ball past  Robbie  Atherton  after  just six minutes and  the  goalkeeper  was  again beaten  by  Jones  who took advantage with the visitors'  defence  appealing  in vain   for offside.
 
Chris  Hall deservedly reduced Easington's deficit in the 50th minute but  Jones completed his hat-trick after playing a one two with Shaun Mackin.
 
The  Colliers battled back again and in the 88th minute Martin Langley beat  his defender and fired home but the Seasiders withstood a late onslaught.
 
Jarrow's  form  so far has been indifferent and after twice scoring five  goals, they crashed to a 4-1 defeat in the South Tyneside derby at Boldon CA.
 
Mark  Johns,  Shaun  Heads  and  Chris Robertson had the  home  side  firmly  in command  before  Jarrow's  Lee  Compton  scored the goal of  the  match  with  a cracking 35-yard volley.
 
Any  hopes Dave Bell's side had of salvaging something from the game ended  when regular marksman Michael Meek calmly took the ball around goalkeeper Tony Orr.
 
Scarborough   Town,  the  only  side  with  a  100  per  cent  record,  enjoy  a three-points  lead at the top of the table after hitting Guisborough HC for  six to take their goals tally from six games to 25.
 
Luke  Jenkinson,  with  a hat-trick, Matthew Brown (2) and Wayne  Brooksby  were the scorers.
 
Alex  Strickland  and  Jonathan  Brown netted  for  Kirkbymoorside  with  Nathan Summerskill and Guy Whatmore earning Wolviston a 2-2 draw.
 
Willington  were  saved the long trek to Cleator Moor Celtic when a  waterlogged pitch caused the match to be postponed yesterday morning.

Ryhope  CW  bounced back to form and made it three wins in four games  defeating Annfield Plain last night.
 
The Wearsiders took the game to their opponents from the start and their efforts were  rewarded  after 25 minutes. Richard Jordan was fouled and Callum  Charlton converted the penalty.
 
Ten  minutes  later,  Jordan rounded goalkeeper Stephen Kennedy  to  double  his team's  lead  and  just before the interval a good run and shot by  David  Newby was  parried  into  the path of Martin Metcalfe who fired the rebound  into  the net.
 
Annfield  Plain  improved  their game in the second period when  there  were  no further  goals  but the visitors still suffered a blow with the sending  off  of Mark Gaffney.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House  have  won  their  first  three  matches  with  Coxhoe Athletic their latest victims.
 
Chris  Charlton fired them in front in the first period but Coxhoe hit back  and restored parity with a Chris Garbutt penalty.
 
Belford  House  though finished strongly and in the last 10 minutes claimed  all three points with strikes from substitute David Baxter and Peter Benson.
 
Silksworth were involved in a five-goals thriller which Boldon CA won 3-2.
 
Andrew  Place  fastened onto a poor back pass and beat Boldon goalkeeper  Andrew Hunter  in the 14th minute but three minutes later a good throw by Hunter  found Michael  Meek.  He  quickly  released the ball to Mark Johnson  who  produced  a thunderous 25-yard volley.
 
The  pair  combined  again  with  Johnson giving his side  the  edge  and  Chris Robinson converted a penalty awarded for a handling offence.
 
Silksworth  were  not  finished, however, and when Shaun Smith fired  home  with eight  minutes  remaining  they were in with a chance but Boldon just  held  on.
  Easington  Colliery  also  won by a 3-2 margin at home to Cleator  Moor  Celtic. Martin  Jones  fired  home in the 18th minute and a good left-foot  volley  from Chris Tarn sent the Colliers in at the break two goals ahead.
 
Barry  Irvine  had  a free header for the Cumbrians but Robert  Huntley  quickly restored  Easington's  two-goals  cushion only for Chris Thornton to  throw  the visiitors a lifeline with 13 minutes left.
 
Newcomers  Scarborough  Town have taken the league by storm and lead  the  table after  hitting  Willington  for seven. Five of their goals were  scored  in  the second period.
 
Neil  Thomas  with  a hat-trick, Nathan Cook (2), Wayne Brooksby and  Joe  Danby netted with Martin Scott claiming a consolation for the home side.
 
Amazingly,  James  Kesterton  has scored all Teesside Athletic's  six  goals  in their  three  matches and a hat-trick swept his team to victory over  Hartlepool who had Brian Ross sent off for a handling offence in the 43rd minute.
 
Jarrow  made  the  long  journey to Windscale worthwhile  when  they  enjoyed  a five-goals  romp. Chris Lunn scored the first three with Stephen Handy and Peter Kane adding their names to the score sheet.
 
Paul  Round  scored twice and debutant Ben David also struck for  Kirkbymoorside with Alex Anderson, Philip Peggs and Shaun Mackin earning New Marske a point.
 
Russell  Spence  and David John were Guisborough HC's scorers against  Wolviston who responded through Danny Rowbotham and Michael Murphy.

A  week  ago  Houghton  Town suffered an 8-1 defeat at the  hands  of  Easington Colliery  and the critics claimed they would struggle during their first  season in the Wearside League.
 
But they hit back with a vengeance at Hartlepool when they celebrated winning by an identical score.
 
An own goal gave them an early advantage but Lee Kitchen quickly equalised. From then on though Houghton bossed the game and seven players found the net.
 
Simon  Williams,  David Sewell, Paul Maw, Steve Williamson, Mark Robinson,  Mark Catchside and Lewis Turnbull came up trumps to inspire confidence that they will not, after all, be strugglers.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House were also in scoring mode and they hit Willington  for six to preserve one of only two 100 per cent records.
 
Peter  Benson was an early marksman from the penalty spot and when Richard Oxman and Martin Deacon also struck, the visitors were in real trouble.
 
They did manage to pull a goal back before the interval courtesy of Martin Scott but  there was no stopping the Wearsiders and further goals flowed from  Benson, Dale Wells and Lewis Hutchinson.
 
Scarborough Town top the table with five wins out of five but they were taken to the wire at Annfield Plain where a penalty by Nathan Cook was all that separated the teams.
 
Silksworth  led  for  65 minutes through Andy Place at  Easington  Colliery  who claimed a point with a late penalty by Peter Crawford.
 
Ryhope  CW  are second-top, with four wins in five games. Their  latest  success came at Boldon CA for whom Shaun Carroll fired home after half an hour.
 
Just  before  the  break Callum Charlton restored parity and when  the  visitors enjoyed much more of the possession during the second period, they were rewarded with goals from John Butler, Gareth Hill and Charlton.
 
After  losing their opening two matches, Jarrow have won the last three and they made it 10 goals in two games against Guisborough HC at Perth Green.
 
Although the visitors led with a brace from John Ryan, they ended well beaten as Chris Lunn rifled a hat-trick and Peter Kane struck twice.
 
A  last-minute  header  by  Adam Preston earned Wolviston a  point  at  Teesside Athletic who had gone in front with a direct corner kick from Billy Millington.
 
Cleator  Moor  Celtic won a nine-goals thriller with strikes from Lee Dunn  (2), Chris Thornton (2) and Darren Johnson. Ryhope  CW conceded a last-minute winner to newcomers Scarborough Town who  have won their first three games to open up a lead at the top of the table.
 
Nathan  Cook  converted a penalty on the stroke of half time but it was no  more than  the Wearsiders deserved when Richard Jordan fired home the equaliser  from just inside the penalty area.
 
With  time running out a draw looked the likely result but on 90 minutes  Cook's drive from outside the area took a deflection on its way into the net.
 
Easington  Colliery  were  the biggest scorers of the day as they  hit  Houghton Town for eight.
 
The  visitors,  without  five regulars, went in front on  five  minutes  through Mark Catchside but this was to be their only success.
 
Martin  Jones bagged a brace by the 15th minute and although Houghton  then held out until six minutes into the second period, they leaked a further six goals in little more than half an hour.
 
Neil  Errington,  Chris Wallace, Danny Flounders, Peter Crawford and Paul  Coxon all  beat  the  overworked  Kevin  McCluskey  and  just  before  the  end  Jones completed a superb hat-trick.
 
Coxhoe  Athletic  are  one of only two sides still pointless.  They  suffered  a third  consecutive  defeat  when  Jarrow, who had lost their  first  two  games, enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 victory.
 
Adam  McDonald  headed the South Durham side in front but a penalty  from  Peter Halliday  restored parity and before the interval Jarrow grabbed the  initiative through Peter Kane.
 
Coxhoe  goalkeeper  Tom  Orton made one outstanding save but  was  powerless  to prevent Andrew Brabbs and Richard Stubbs earning Jarrow their first points.
 
A  late  strike  from David Hopper proved pivotal for Boldon CA who  just  edged Kirkbymoorside.  Mark  Johnson  was  the home side's other  marksman  with  Paul Round temporarily raising the hopes of the visitors.
 
Shaun  Ross  (2), Stephen Chapman and Kevin Dixon led Hartlepool to  victory  at Guisborough  HC  for  whom David Campbell twice scored while an only  goal  from Glen Walker enabled Wolviston to record their first win, at Willington.
 
Dean  Lee  and  Aaron  Robertson  netted for  Annfield  Plain  with  New  Marske responding through Alex Anderson and Shaun Mackin.
 
Silksworth  were  saved a long travel into Cumbria when torrential  rain  caused the  postponement  of their fixture with Cleator Moor Celtic. The  game  between Windscale and Teesside Athletic also fell victim to the weather.

Ryhope  CW  topped the scoring charts in last night's Wearside League  programme when they romped to a 5-1 victory over Windscale.
 
Man-of-the-match  was  Richard  Jordan who netted a superb hat-trick but  in  an excellent team performance, Martin Metcalfe and Glen Moan also found the net.
 
There  was only a minute remaining as Dean Rogers claimed a consolation for  the Cumbrians.
 
Following  their opening-day victory Houghton Town went down 3-0 to  Guisborough Town HC who also had a hat-trick hero in Jonathan Sharkey.
 
Ashbrooke  Belford  House  made  it two wins out of two when they  saw  off  the challenge from Jarrow at Perth Green.
 
Peter  Benson  fired the Wearsiders in front and Dave Scott added a second  goal but  when Keith Hallway reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, it was all to play for.
 
Boldon  CA lost a seven-goals thriller at New Marske who were reduced to 10  men on  65  minutes  when goalkeeper Justin Hutchinson handled outside  the  penalty area.
 
Dave  Brown,  Rob  Jones and Danny Wilkinson had the Seasiders  three  goals  up before Mark Johnson reduced the arrears.
 
Jones  then  made  it 4-1 but in a frenetic finale Chris Robinson  struck  twice for Boldon who were unfortunate not to claim a point.
 
Silksworth   played  their  first  game  and  edged  Coxhoe  Athletic  with  two excellent goals.
 
Cameron  Marshall placed his shot into the top corner of the net a minute before the  interval  and  midway through the second period Andrew  Place  chipped  the goalkeeper when one on one.
 
Easington  Colliery left  it  late  before gaining a share of  the  points  with Wolviston at Welfare Park.
 
Glen  Walker  scored  with  a direct free kick but  before  the  interval  Barry Turton produced a clinical finish for the Colliers' equaliser.
 
A  swerving  left-foot shot by Luke Bennington evaded Easington  goalkeeper  Joe Atherton  but  with just a minute remaining Martin Langley fired through a  ruck of players and Wolviston's debutant goalkeeper Adam Green was unsighted.
 
Two  goals from James Kesterton earned Teesside Athletic the points at  Annfield Plain whose only reply was credited to Roy Gordon.
 
Steve  Chapman  rounded goalkeeper Grant Carson but his effort was  insufficient to  save  Hartlepool  from  defeat at Cleator Moor Celtic  whose  marksmen  were Darren Johnson (2) and Lee Dunn.
 
Newcomers  Scarborough  Town  won  for the  second  successive  game,  defeating Kirkbymoorside  with  efforts  from Luke Jenkinson, Wayne  Brooksby  and  George Rose. Jonathan Brown responded.

THE  two  new  sides both won with Scarborough taking pride of  place  following their 6-1 victory over Jarrow at Perth Green.
 
It  was the home side who scored first though as Kris Goss struck but from  then on  it  was  all  down hill for the South Tynesiders, who enjoyed  a  very  good pre-season.
 
The  Seasiders  took  the  points and the honours as  Luke  Jenkinson  rifled  a hat-trick and Robbie Hawkins, Wayne Brooksby and Dean Craig also netted.
 
Houghton  Town opened with a less spectacular result but nonetheless  celebrated at the expense of Coxhoe Athletic.
 
Robbie  Elliott  fired Houghton in front midway through the first period and  in the second half Paul Maw made sure of the points.
 
New  Marske, runners-up last season, went down to Ashbrooke Belford House. Kenny Taylor  headed in a 15th-minute free kick and the Wearsiders added a second goal on the hour with a clinical 20-yard finish by Stuart Burton.
 
Willington  were  wooden  spoonists  and  they too  came  up  trumps,  defeating Windscale.  There  was  little between the teams until John Harrison  broke  the deadlock  on  70 minutes and just before the whistle, Henry Drummond  ended  the hopes of the Cumbrians.
 
Michael  Pattis's  early  goal for Ryhope CW was cancelled out as  Paul  Milward levelled  for  Guisborough  HC, following up when goalkeeper  Michael  Burlinson parried a Neil Campbell penalty.
 
A  good  run  by  David Newby opened up the opportunity for  Richard  Jordan  to restore  Ryhope's advantage and two minutes from time, Dickie Hall made sure  of the points.
 
David  Dougherty  gave  Easington  Colliery a first-half  injury-time  lead  but Hartlepool  took  the  points  with  goals in the last  two  minutes  from  Kyle McDermott and Shaun Ross.
 
James  Kesterton struck for Teesside Athletic but a minute from the end  Michael Meek, a regular scorer last season, equalised for Boldon CA.
 
Paul  Round  bagged a brace of goals for Kirkbymoorside and Annfield  Plain  hit back with a Paul Hodgson own goal and an equaliser by Aaron Robertson.
 
Adam   Preston   was  Wolviston's  only  scorer  at  Cleator  Moor  Celtic   who comfortably won courtesy of Glynn Edwards, Barry Irving and Lee Dunn.
